Cheerful 1924 bungalow in established neighborhood with easy access to DC and points beyond. Large screened porch on the side of the house for meals and relaxing - including a ceiling fan, a large picnic table, and cozy lighting over comfy chairs for after dinner. A front porch that's good for watching the pass -- neighbors walking their dogs, pushing children in strollers, and riding bikes. Inside, plenty of space to spread out (for a not-so-big house): front and rear living rooms; a dining room and a breakfast nook. Fully equipped kitchen. Playspace downstairs for kids. Puzzles, books and games. Good wifi. Off-street parking. Convenient access to highways, transit, and bike paths. And a sweet little calico cat named Phoebe! Quiet, long-established residential neighborhood, with many homes built in 1920s. Mature trees, plenty of shade, sidewalks. Convenient access to public transit and larger roadways (20 minute walk to Metrorail's Silver Spring station, which brings you into DC, with a bus stop 2 blocks from the house if you'd rather ride.) Several neighborhood parks and playgrounds within walking distance, and biking distance to local and national parks (including the very large oasis within the city that is Rock Creek Park, a national park with hiking, biking and horse trails, and which runs all the way through Washington DC down to the Potomac River). Several grocery stores, restaurants and a local bagelry are also within walking distance.
Washington DC has so much to do! I've lived here for 40 years and still enjoy exploring. U.S. Capitol building and grounds. The White House. The National Mall and Smithsonian Institution museums (all free). A vibrant dining scene. Cultural treasures like the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Wolf Trap (outdoor performance space in Virginia) and many other performing arts venues, large and small. Fun neighborhoods to explore - Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Capital Hill, H Street, Chinatown/Gallery Place, The Wharf, the list goes on and on.
Further afield, this is a great base for day trips! Any direction you go there are beautiful parks, historic towns, and places to explore. Shenandoah Mountains to the west, with their rolling foothills, small towns and scenic roadways through horse country. Historic civil war towns in Maryland to the north (check out Frederick) - along with Charm City (Baltimore). To the east, historic Annapolis (home of the U.S. Naval Academy) and the Eastern Shore, where you can feast on blue crabs. South of DC is George Washington's home of Mount Vernon, along with multiple parks connected to the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

I live with a dog, Betsy, and a cat, Phoebe. Betsy comes with me when I travel (or stays with friends), but Phoebe stays behind and I ask guests to care for her (requirements are minimal). She is a friendly little calico but a bit shy. I leave clear instructions about cat care. Phoebe is an indoor-only cat.
