We present to you a cosy, rural cottage with the most stunning views inland across farmland, with not another building in sight (beyond our family home), yet only moments away from the water of Chichester Harbour.
Smugglers Haul is a newly-built barn-style cottage with two bedrooms and an open-plan kitchen and living-room. It is the guest house to our family home, set back in its own space. There is also a separate office, with excellent wifi, to make working from home totally easy (please let us know in advance if you require this so we can make it available); and off-road parking right next to the cottage.
It is a lovely, relaxing place to stay, where the sounds are birds, not cars, and the sights are wildlife not people - that said, this is an extremely sociable and friendly place to live and you are sure to meet others locally.
In just a minute's walk you can reach the sea, where you can walk on to the scenic historic town of Bosham or catch the ferry across the harbour (or take our kayak!) and continue your adventure to the beach at West Wittering. The wonderful South Downs are on view from the front door and just 10 minutes drive away.

The village of Bosham is just a mile's walk (or drive) along the foreshore - a road which is flooded at high tide, so be careful! It is a gorgeous village, with a church dating back over a thousand years, a seaside cafe, a couple of nice pubs (one which is so close to the sea that you can have a pint on the sea wall inside the pub) and a small arcade of local shops. Dave, the ice cream man, is a local legend from Easter until October. The Harbour itself is dominated by sailing and boating of all types, with a number of thriving harbour clubs. It is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, with an amazing array of wildlife. If you are lucky, you will even see the seals. There are a good number of beautiful walks, accessible directly from the cottage - and you can extend that range further by a short car ride.
Chichester itself is about 10 minutes car ride away. It is a wonderful Cathedral city dating back to Roman times (you can walk round the city walls still, which follow the old Roman lines) and is not only beautiful in its own right, but has everything you need. Extensive shopping, recreational facilities, art galleries, a hospital and one of the best theatres in the UK outside London.
The South Downs take much exploring. For those who like walking, this is beautiful territory; if you like a good pub and a picturesque village, there are plenty to discover; if you like wine, there are local vineyards; if you like wildlife, Kingley Vale (the nearest point to us - about 15 minutes away) is a national nature reserve managed by Natural England, and open to all.
20 minutes' drive to the East, Arundel Castle is set in a medieval town on the banks of the River Arun, and provides a wonderful day out. 20 minutes' drive to the West is Portsmouth, with its historic dockyard, spectacular harbour and fascinating naval history. It also provides (ferry and hovercraft) access to the Isle of Wight, under half an hour away by water. We sometimes bike (10 minutes) to Bosham Station, catch a (30 minute) train to Portsmouth and a (20 minute) ferry, and go for a bike ride on the island! It makes for a good day out.
For those who wish to venture further afield, Bosham station has direct hourly trains into London Victoria taking about an hour and a half.
