Stunning first floor apartment in a 19th century hilltop chateau with stunning, panoramic views of the Lot Valley. Close to the medieval market town of Martel with its busy market and many restaurants, the chateau - a former hunting lodge - has extensive grounds, its own swimming pool and tennis court for the sole use of chateau guests. The apartment has three bedrooms. One master bedroom with en suite bathroom and two twin bedrooms. Also a second bathroom and a third toilet. There is a kitchen with oven, electric hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The apartment is tastefully furnished and has many period features including floor to ceiling windows. It is a non smoking apartment. No pets allowed and no loud music.
Even though it is located in the countryside there are lots of opportunities to have fun in the water. There is a waterpark a 20 minute drive away in Carennac. This has big water slides and inflatables for older children and a dedicated area with small slides for little ones. Also plenty of space for swimming and diving and a large grassed area to sunbathe and picnic. There is also a large fresh water swimming lake a 20 minute drive away in Tauriac. This is our favourite destination for days out. Like being at the beach without the sand. The lake is perfect for swimmers with fresh water running in from the river. There is a diving pontoon in the middle which my sons love. Also a small water slide for younger children. There are numerous points on the Dordogne river 15/20 minutes away where you can swim and also many stations from which you can hire canoes and travel between. You can take a picnic and spend the whole day having an adventure on the river. Find your own private spots to relax and swim. Then the minibus will take you back to your start location.
The chateau lies in the upper reaches of the Dordogne valley, just within the department of Lot, east of the town of Souillac and south of the regional city of Brive la Gaillarde. Brieve provides comprehensive facilities as well as main line rail links to Paris (4hrs) and a motor rail service to calais, plus a regional airport. The chateau is situated in an elevated woodland setting of 4 hectares (10 acres) above the hamlet of Strenquels. It is approached up a long private driveway that climbs through the woods. The chateau was built in 1820 by the Noyer de Segonsac family as a hunting lodge. In around 1880 it was enlarged and became the family home.
It's a vacation home so we have a local person who will meet you upon arrival and then clean and do the laundry on departure. The cost for this is £120, payable two weeks before arrival. This fee can be waived for reciprocal swaps. If you want any provisions bought in for your stay they can do this. We'd put you in touch with them to arrange a cost and payment.

Fantastic opportunities to have fun swimming and canoeing. Lots of amazing restaurants to eat in. Beautiful peaceful countryside to relax in. An amazing view from our apartment across the valley.
