Vad du kommer att gilla med hemmet

Built in 2008, 2600 internal square feet (242 sq meters) merge with 4200 sf (390 sq meters) of external space, spread over 3 terraces on two floors. We never get used to the sound of the waves and the feel of the trades.

IMPORTANT: The location of our villa on the map is incorrect. Please zoom out (by clicking "-") on the map. Scan to the right until you see the pin on the coast (immediately to the left of the "L" of "Long Pond Bay"), 50 yards from the sea.

Ground floor rooms are high-ceilinged and octagonal, full of light, yielding expansive views of the open Caribbean to the southeast, St. Barths to the south, and St. Martin to the southwest.

Optimal orientation encourages the constant tradewinds to flow throughout our home, keeping it comfortably cool even on the hottest summer days. (A/C is available, but you won't need it, allowing you to hear the sea at all times.)

The side door is the usual point of access and opens into the kitchen, with all the usual amenities, including an island countertop and small kitchen table for breakfasts and informal meals.

All countertops are granite. Flooring is mostly Anguilla stone, indoors and out, which is unusual. Hand-quarried and polished, we really wanted a "piece of the Rock" beneath our feet.

The plan is open and flows into the dining area, with a large mahogany dining table that seats 8 easily, as well as a built-in "lying-down nook" which fills the octagonal space along the large windows. It is a favorite area for naps and reading while enjoying the breeze and sounds of the sea (enough room for 4 adults, so loads of space for 2).

The dining area continues into our favorite space downstairs, the "breezeway between sea and pool." That's where Ken works, Caribbean to the right, pool to the left, separated by 20+ feet of "Hurricane 5"-rated sliding doors (if you want to visit during hurricane season, this is probably the most solid home on-island).

Ours is also the only home on the island with fibre-optic cable DIRECTLY to it. We're off the island network, giving us highest speed and 100% reliability. There is high-speed WIFI throughout the home on both floors.

Continuing on takes us to the home theatre/living area with 60" high-quality Panasonic plasma screen and 7.1 sound that can shake the island (if you want it to), with BluRay and media player. 500 blu-ray discs and many hundreds more on the media player (high-quality, 10GB+), for evenings where you just feel like lazing around. We don't subscribe to cable or satellite (never used it), but we can if you want it.

The large L-shaped sofa in this living area opens into a bed, should you wish to sleep more than the 4 that the 2 bedrooms accommodate. Speaking of bedrooms...

The final area on the ground floor, and the only one with a door (louver), is a spacious bedroom with king bed, the usual amenities, another high-quality, smaller Panasonic plasma screen and sound system, and large bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower.

Stairs lead up to a large master bedroom with king bed, vaulted ceiling, spectacular views, massive terrace wrapped all around it, indoor bath/shower and outdoor shower. A/C if you want it, but you probably won't. Full of light and the sounds of the sea, it's our special place.

Living in Anguilla since 2008, it is all we had hoped. A desert (not mountainous) Caribbean island, Anguilla is one of the sunniest countries in the world, renowned for its beaches, often voted best in the Caribbean. Less humid than mountainous islands, too.

For historical reasons, it's also the safest island with the friendliest people. You can picnic safely on the remotest of beaches. Anguilla retains its unique nature while also being home to, and favorite destination of, the rich and famous, many of whom come year after year without entourage or bodyguards.

Just tell us what you like and we'll tell you what's the best. Anguilla is also famous for its 5* gourmet restaurants (you can also eat cheaply at wonderful non-tourist spots). You can partake in any water activity you'd like, or simply "lime" the days away.

The restaurants are truly world-class. Despite its tiny population of 13,000, we regularly bring home gold and silver medals from the major Caribbean culinary contests, even though it competes against islands ten-to-hundred times its population.

For shopping, aside from a world-class driftwood sculptor, a few artists, and locally made crafts which are interesting, our suggestion is to head over to St. Martin/St. Maarten (a 20 minute ferry ride that leaves every 45 minutes).

The French side yields savings of 30-50% (compared to Manhattan prices) on luxury goods like Rolex and Cartier watches or Longchamps bags due to its duty-free status and no sales tax. The Dutch side is a shopper's haven for just about everything else.

If you like to explore, and Anguilla really is an island meant to be covered well, our central location is ideal. 4-wheel drive is included. It's a sturdy 1999 Hilux, yes, you read that right - 1999 - and solid as a rock - needed if you want to get off the beaten track. The SUV is "British-side drive" as we "on the other side" in Anguilla.

From our home, you're no more than 20 minutes from the most eastern or western tips, 2 minutes from an unknown perfect little sandy beach and 5-10 from others. And if you'd like to visit the out islands, we'll be glad to put you in the good hands of folks with an excellent boat.

Anguilla really is the perfect Caribbean vacation. You'll feel perfectly at home and you have nothing to clean, since 2 people come in Mondays and Thursday to thoroughly scrub it down (cleaning every surface is part of our salt maintenance program). So our home is kept spotless for you. :-)

As you see in the photos, your nearest neighbors are hundreds of yards away, meaning you have the utmost in privacy, too.

Our schedule is flexible. We are willing and able to travel on short notice. We're particularly interested in long-term stays in the heart of MAJOR CITIES (Europe and Asia being the preference), but will consider anything exotic and different.

We are novice exchangers, although we did "do" one MANY years ago to France, pre-Internet, which has resulted in a good friendship between our families (we even took care of their daughter for a prolonged period when she came to learn english).

We're organized and easy to get along with. So please don't worry about "us newbies." We'll make sure that your experience is perfect. :-)

The photos on that webpage are larger, with more detail visible. We updated the exterior shots to show how much the garden has grown, in just 5 years. Aside from that, it's all the same since we keep our home in immaculate condition, much like a salt maintenance program for yachts.

The only differences are that the drums are gone from the 2nd bedroom (the kids grew up!) and the marine railings team finally (18 months later!) showed up to install railings for the second floor. Life in the Caribbean. :-)

Our home on the southeast coast of Anguilla offers an idyllic blend of all the comforts one could want, varied views, tradewinds (NO mosquitoes) and an intimate relationship with the sea and its moods (which range from glassy calm to surfable-sized waves).

- privacy (no villa closer than a few hundred yards)

- breeziness (not too far east, which gets "wild" and not sheltered by St. Martin's mountains), so our villa is comfortable on the hottest days (NO need to close the house up for A/C, although you can if you prefer)

- south shore on the Caribbean (north shore is the Atlantic)

- 3 minutes from The Valley, our capital, making errands as quick as possible

- central location, no more than 20 minutes from any point in Anguilla. Whatever you want to do is easily accessible.
