We’re 10 minutes drive away from Bradgate Park, where you can enjoy beautiful walks in the grounds of the ancestral home of Lady Jane Grey, who was Queen for 9 day’s from 10 July until 19 July 1553, before ending up in the Tower of London!! We are 7miles from Loughborough,a small market town and home to a world renowned University and 7 miles from Leicester City, where you can visit the King Richard lll Visitor Centre, located next to the Cathedral and the National Space Centre located on the outskirts of the city. There are all the usual things you’d expect to find in a city; Shopping Centres, Numerous places to eat and drink, a Showcase Cinema and The Curve Theatre. - Buzzy restaurants: At the bottom of our drive is the Bluebell, a traditional British Pub that serves food at lunchtime and evenings. A walk into the village centre takes you to Templars where breakfast, light lunches and various homemade cakes are served and the Fish and Chip shop where you can enjoy the great British dish of Fish and Chips either as a takeaway or you can eat in the adjoining restaurant. In the neighbouring village of Mountsorrel (less than a 5 minute drive away) you can enjoy a fine wine and dining experience at 1 Michelin Star Restaurant Johns House - it is a beautiful and unique dining experience. We can highly recommend the taster menu with wine pairing. At the other end of the scale in nearby village of Barrow-upon-Soar you can sit at the back of the Istanbul Grill takeaway restaurant and enjoy the delicious Turkish Cuisine - it has well deserved Trip advisor reviews and is great value for money (it’s not licensed so if you want a beer or wine with your meal you just “Bring Your Own”. A 10 minute drive into the Charnwood Forest takes you to the Grey Lady, where lunch and evening meals are served. Sunday lunch there is beautiful and as it’s close to Bradgate Park (hence the name) you can pull a walk in either before or after you eat. In Woodhouse Eves, a granite and sleet built village another 10 minute drive away you can have lunch or an evening meal at the Curzon Arms, another traditional British Pub or you can opt for Itallian Cuisine at the Pear Tree. In the beautiful village of Swithland, a 5 minute drive away you will find a country pub called the Griffin which serves food at Lunch and in the evening. In Quorn (10min drive away) you can enjoy a lovely breakfast at Odd Johns and on the outskirts of the village lies the Manor House which serves food day. There are many great restaurants both near and slightly further afield. Fine wine and dining is one of our hobbies passions and if it’s something you’re interested in we can give you many great recommendations, throughout the UK.
- Cool bars: There is a Traditional British Pub in the village called the Woodies. It is where all the villagers gather for a catch up. They have a Petang Team and play in a local league. It’s a great place to go to and has a warm, friendly welcoming atmosphere. When there’s a Leicester Tigers Rugby home game the fans gather for pre match drinks and post match drinks. A local bus company ferries them all to and from the match for a small fee! It’s a great experience and if you visit during rugby season it’s definitely worth joining in!
- Cozy cafés: A short walk to the village centre and you will find Templars which is a lovely coffee shop serving breakfasts, light lunches and gorgeous homemade cakes. We also have Cuppas which is a charming little tea room serving various cakes and light lunches. Another walk away is the Mountsorrel and Rothley Heritage Centre where you will find a great little Coffee Shop called Granites. All the neighbouring villages have coffee shops and are only a 5 minute drive away. In Quorn you have Odd Johns, which serves delicious breakfasts and light lunches as well as a selection of homemade cakes. (There is another Odd Johns tucked away behind the Griffin Pub in the beautiful village of Swithland). Back in Quorn there other coffee shops Od’thorpes and Pretzel Deli. 10 minutes drive from us is Newtown Linford where Jades Tearoom is situated close to one of the entrances to Bradgate Pak. Here you can enjoy gorgeous home made cakes and light lunches and is a great place to start or end a walk in the Park. In Woodhouse Eaves there is a quaint tea room called Barkers which as the rest, serves great cakes and snacks during the day. The tea room and coffee shop culture has grown in the UK and wherever you go you’re are totally spoilt for choice.
- Retail therapy: Our local village has a few small individual shops; a traditional Hardware Store, a Newsagents with a Post Office and Off Licence, Small Grocery Store, Gift Shops, Coffee Shops, Interiors Shop, Hairdressers, Beauty Salon, an exclusive Ladies Fashion Boutique, Estate Agents, Florist and Chinese and Indian Takeaways. All of the neighbouring village centres are small, offering interesting, individual, exclusive shops. All of the small Market Towns are interesting to walk around as they too have individual shops with some of the high street shops also in the Mix. The big cities all have large shopping centres. London is only a short train ride away where you can experience shopping in Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Knightsbridge, Carnaby Street, Jermyn Street Bond Street, Harrods, Fortnum and Masons, Hamleys Toy Shop, From St Pancras Station you can catch the high speed Javelin and in 10minutes you can get to Westfields Shopping Centre, which is situated on the edge of the London 2012 Olympic Park, which is also worth a visit,
- Day tripping: The midlands means that day trips are in abundance because everything is relatively nearby and there are literally too many to mention. There is however everything from Zoos, Safari Parks, Castles, Theme Parks, Stately Homes, Castles, Gardens, Museums, Outdoor Pursuits, Country Pursuits, City Pursuits, Concerts, Festivals, Theatre ... London is always a great place to spend a day (or 2 or3!!) as there is so much to see and do there. Birmingham has many interning places to visit. The Cotswolds is a beautiful day out. The Prince of Wales’s residence Highgrove House and Gardens, Theme Parks such as Alton Towers, Cadbury World, Lego Land are all nearby, Windsor Castle, Derbyshire, The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales ... all great places for a day trip or longer - but there are so many other places on our doorstep so please let us know where you’re interests lie and we can let you know what’s about!
