Wat je fantastisch zult vinden in dit huis
We are actively looking for a guest point exchange during the period of April 13 to May 3rd. Please note that we are looking for at least 6 or 7 days as we cannot manage frequent changeovers. Early spring before the bugs hatch is a great time to relax at the side of the lake.
We are open anytime to a Hospitality Exchange with private accommodation in a separate building on our property that we call the Bunkie. See the separate listing for information and pictures.
Our neighbourhood is a quiet, natural environment and we ask our exchange partners not to play music outdoors at any time and to observe quiet hours after 10 pm.
We are also open to simultaneous exchanges to interesting destinations year round. We don't travel a lot in the summer but are open to considering it.
House Description: There is a King size bed in the master bedroom upstairs, a queen in the guest room on the main floor and a day bed with a pop up trundle that can be either a California King or two singles in the third bedroom.
The house was custom built in 2009 by a timber frame builder who is also a wood artist. (Some refer to this form of building as post and beam.) The builder was able to reincorporate birch wood, that was cut from the lot to make room for the house, into the home. This wood was used to create some stunning features such as what we call the "gnarly"newel post in the entrance hallway, the "crooks" that adorn the living room and loft, and the cabinetry and shelving throughout the house.
The house is an extremely energy efficient home heated by geothermal technology in a very natural setting. Manicured lawns and formal gardens will NOT be found on this property.
The house has a large living or great room with cathedral ceilings and a loft area that overlooks the rear of the home and the living room. There is also a large open concept kitchen and dining room. All of these rooms plus the loft and master bedroom have exposed beams that add a warm, cozy feel to the spaces. There is a magnificient, two storey stone fireplace in the living room. The living room and dining room overlook the lake and have fabulous views. There is a western exposure leading to the viewing of wonderful sunsets if the clouds co-operate.
Master bedroom has a king-size bed. There is a walk-through closet and a very large master ensuite with a large shower and jacuzzi tub. The main floor guest bedroom has a queen-size bed and is right beside a full bathroom (not quite en suite but, almost). This is a very large 3 piece bathroom with a sink, toilet and very large, accessible shower stall. The 3rd sleeping area is set up as a den with a day bed that has a pop up trundle that allows you to convert it to a room with either a California King or two twin beds. It can also be equipped with a crib (available onsite). High chair is also available.
There is a two car garage and a building we call a bunkie that can accommodate 2 or 3 more people. This would need to be separately negotiated.
There is a kayak and a canoe included for use of exchange partners.

De leukste plekjes bij ons in de buurt
The location of the home on what used to be an island that is now connected to the "mainland" by a road gives one the feeling of being very remote yet it is only a 10 minute drive to town. There is an 18 hole golf course on our lake, just a couple of kms away and 4 others in the neighbourhood. The world class white water preserve is only 3 km away if you are a white water enthusiast. It is the site that was used for the 2015 Pan Am Games.
The Haliburton Highlands is an artistic community and the home of the Haliburton School of Art and Design. There are numerous art courses available for a day, a week, or a term if you wish to enhance your artistic skills while in the neighbourhood. There are many attractions in all seasons for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you cycle, downhill ski, cross country ski, snowboard, dog sled, snowmobile, water ski, etc there are lots of options for you to enjoy your sport. Just ask. You can also check out the tourism website at www.experiencehaliburton.com.
The Haliburton HIghlands is located on the Canadian Shield, the largest rock formation in the world. As such you will be treated to visions of lakes, rivers and trees surrounded by rock at every turn in the road. If you are a rock-hound this is the place for you.
If you are a movie buff please come in the spring, summer or fall and visit the Highlands Cinema -- the owner is a collector of movie memorabilia and a visit to the theatre is a must. Haliburton is also the home of the Haliburton International Film Festival the first weekend in November.
Many of our neighbours are cottagers who come here in the summer months and are rarely seen the rest of the year. As such we have a great deal of privacy 10 months of the year and a vibrant lakefront community the other 2.
We are situated amongst mainly deciduous trees and thus, in the fall we are treated to the cavalcade of spectacular colours as the leaves turn from green to shades of red, orange and yellow prior to falling to the ground. Our first house exchange partners proclaimed that sitting in the two recliners in front of the great room window was like watching an ever changing picture as the fall colours appeared and receded before their eyes during the month of October.
During the summer the lake is a big attraction with boating and swimming opportunities. There are a variety of hiking options in the area and tourist sites to visit or you can just stay at the house and enjoy the lake. We are only an hour from Algonquin Park and a day trip or two to this area is recommended. However, the scenery in our area is very similar to what will be seen in this internationally acclaimed park.
In the Winter snow abounds and you are able to enjoy the local ski hill for downhill skiing or snowboarding. Or perhaps you wish to try your hand at snowmobiling, cross country skiing or dogsledding -- all are available whenever there is snow on the ground -- usually late December to March.
In spring it is a wondrous thing to watch the trees come back to life as the buds on the trees open with their first delicate leaves.
