Hva kommer du til å elske i dette hjemmet
This is why it's special . . .
Our home is a Mid-century Modern house that offers an open-floor plan with a sense of privacy. Design sensitivity is the hallmark of this special property. The interaction and awareness of the oneness of architecture with environment is the living experience here.
An expansive 40ft wall of glass seamlessly connects the interior with an exterior that faces South into the large, mature landscaped backyard. The backyard area includes the spacious deck, patio and lawn for outdoor dining, garden and play activities. There is a place for meditative relaxation as well. Counterpoint to the backyard is the fully landscaped front area deliberately obscuring the house from the road view. The front entrance is accessed from the parking area along a narrow, lush pathway that curves, then opens to a secluded, white gravel "Zen" garden. From the garden, cantilevered steps lead to the private entrance.
The ground level of the open-floor house plan includes a foyer with powder room that leads to the large living / dining space. This further integrates with the eat-in kitchen, access to a smaller outdoor deck leading to second parking area. Also, on the ground level, tucked behind a glass topped "pony wall", is a hidden Master suite enclosure. This private unit includes a bedroom, an equally large dressing room and bathroom with spacious showering section.
Just off the entry foyer are steps leading up to a separate second level common space. This area is used as a work space and connects to the two bedrooms with Queen size beds, library with many art books and full bathroom with twin sinks. This level is perfect for extended family and visitor privacy.
Walnut parquet, bamboo strip, architectural tile and stone flooring, wide fireplace brick hearth, interesting furnishings and original artwork throughout are all evident of the residents' personal aesthetic.
Interesting architectural spaces are integral to this home. High, sloping pine board ceilings with their massive wooden beams and supports define the space with simplicity and clarity. Spaciousness and light throughout the entire house are accentuated by skylights, cutouts, clerestory and expansive windows and large glass doors. Sensitive use of structural elements and materials of wood, glass, stone and concrete incorporate the minimalist aesthetics of Modernism.
Our home is beautiful, special and unique. It is certainly a joy to simply be here.

Hva du vil elske med dette nabolaget
Our home is located in the Town of North Haven, Upper Whitneyville, specifically, the Whitney / Ridge proximity in an old, established neighborhood typical of New England. The properties tend to be well cared for by the long term and some multi-generational owners. Hence, it is a very attractive and stable neighborhood five miles from downtown New Haven and Yale University.
Quinnipiac University is also nearby, just across from The Sleeping Giant State Park a couple of miles from here. This park provides wonderful walks with over 30 miles of hiking trails on more than 1400 acres to discover. The are two golf courses nearby and many opportunities for other sports, both on land and water. We are located one mile from a few small stores which supply the basics. Hamden center and the shopping plaza with Supermarkets and several other stores is less than five minutes by car.
North Haven, Connecticut, is a town of ca. 25,000 people that borders New Haven, the home of Yale University - only 10 minutes away by car. The Greater New Haven area counts approximately 250,000 people. New Haven has established itself as a great cultural center since 1701. Currently, there are two notable art museums, the Yale Center for British Art and Yale University Art Gallery. The Peabody Museum of Natural History houses a splendid collection of dinosaur skeletons, and the Yale University Library is the 3rd largest in the country. The three local theaters include: The Shubert and Longwharf Theaters, which has premiered many Broadway hits, and The Yale Repertory Theater. In the summer the International Festival of Arts and Ideas takes center stage the two last weeks of June, offering world class entertainment in music, theatre, and dance as well as lectures and seminars. There is a plethora of restaurants for every taste, from the finest French cuisine to the authentic birth places of Pizza and Burgers.
New Haven is a coastal city with a port. There are miles of wonderful beaches just half an hour from here. Continuing north along the shoreline one will get to Rhode Island in about 2 hours. The mansions of Rockefeller and other “American Royalty” in Newport can provide a memorable visit. The famous Newport Jazz Festival takes place in August. Boston, Massachusetts just under 3 hours. Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Block Island are worthwhile destinations to visit for summer fun on the beaches, hikes and bike rides. For admirers of classical music, there are Tanglewood and Norfolk music festivals in the summer. New York City is easily reached in 90min. by commuter trains that run at least once per hour, more often during rush hour.
