Hva kommer du til å elske i dette hjemmet
We live in a large historic home which has been lovingly renovated to a high modern standard whilst preserving many of the original features. The house is arranged over three floors with spacious rooms with natural light flooding in. On the ground floor there is a hallway with access to a large reception room extending from the front to the back of the house, with two sofas for relaxing and reading a book away from the bustle of the main rooms. We love cooking for family and friends in the large open-plan kitchen which has a central island to gather around and prepare food together. Alternatively, family or friends can hang out with you on the sofa while you cook, and then you can all dine together around a table that seats eight comfortably. The kitchen and dining area lead into a lovely new eco-standard garden room with sofas, where we mostly relax, read watch TV or listen to music. In the warmer months the glass sliding doors open up onto a private walled garden, where you can watch the ariel displays from visiting Swifts, and the resident Rooks from the castle beyond making their evening patrol over the town. There is also a small sauna in the garden. Upstairs offers a variety of rooms with another large room with a TV, sofas and desk, 3 large bedrooms with Queen size beds, 2 single bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms with showers and bath tubs. The house and garden is an oasis of calm and peacefulness with easy access to cafes, shops, cinema and walks in the hills from the front door.

For Culture Vultures
For a small town, Hay is a honeypot of culture, with its winding streets lined with unique independent shops asking to be explored. With over twenty book shops, hours – can be spent delving into Hay’s treasure trove of literary delight. Be sure to start with Richard Booths Bookshop, ‘the world’s largest second-hand bookshop and it’s independent cinema where you can watch the latest releases with glass of wine in hand.
In the centre of town is Hay Castle, one of the great medieval defence structures on the border of England and Wales still standing. After a multimillion-pound restoration it’s an architectural triumph. The Castle has a fabulous programme of events and workshops running throughout the year and with a fantastic cafe and restaurant, it’s a must-do visit.
Half an hour down the road is the lively cathedral city of Hereford, and a visit to the 13th Century Mappa Mundi – the largest medieval map of the world in existence- is a must. Or drop into The Cider Museum to explore cellars of this former cider making factory.
The Visit Herefordshire website is well worth a look for tips and day-trip ideas local to Hay.
For Foodies and Shoppers
Hay’s winding streets also house a range of independent shops including antique markets, quirky artisan stalls, modern galleries, and excellent homeware and clothing stores. There really is something for everyone!
For the foodies, Hay does not disappoint, and is filled with great coffee shops, a fabulous ice cream parlour, range of gastropubs. Or pick up some supplies to take back to your luxe accommodation from the excellent deli, organic butchers, or local greengrocer. The Thursday and Saturday Farmer’s Market is also not to be missed!
A nighttime addition to Hay’s unique vibe.
Fabulous dark skies at night. We are located within the Brecon Beacons National Park, one of only 13 locations worldwide with a ‘dark sky’ status due to its low light and air pollution. The countryside around Hay, and particularly the hills makes for a fabulous spot for stargazing. Magic.
Hay-on-Wye Festival
Hay on Wye has an international reputation arising both from its status as the largest centre for second-hand books anywhere in the world, and for its annual festival www.HayFestival.com.
The Hay on Wye festival has expanded in recent years and now includes musical performances and film previews.
For walking and hiking
Hay sits in the Brecon Beacons National Park and offers lots of walks, short and long and including the world famous Offas Dyke trail https://www.visitwales.com/things-do/adventure-and-activities/walking/offas-dyke-walks

Annet
Our house is nearly always available in November and March for a month each time as we are usually away working and therefore is available for points. In the months from May to September we are also open to house exchange. We love walking, swimming and exploring different cultures and communities. Ideally we are looking for a home to exchange for 2 to 4 weeks, somewhere in Europe and warm enough to swim.
