Our home is a mobile safari camp in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. It's wild, it's raw and not your average home stay. Our home is Great Migration Camps - mobile camping units that move around the Serengeti National Park - allowing our view to change with each location. Like the wildebeest we live and move according to the seasons. We are in tune with the weather, our surroundings, and our resources for survival in the bush. We also live with African wildlife, so need to stay alert to sounds, smells and subtle signs from nature.
PLEASE NOTE: As we are inside Serengeti National Park, park and concession fees apply. These are set by the government and currently $154 per adult per day (including VAT) and around $45 for children aged 5–15.9 years. These fees are essential for conservation but can be a deciding factor for some visitors, so please consider this when planning your exchange.
We wake up to birdsong or the call of a lion before dawn. We drink hot coffee at sunrise, and leave for wildlife sightings at first light. Morning game drive takes a pause mid-morning with a tea break/ snack. We sometimes go back to camp for lunch and sometimes take lunch with us in the safari-vehicle to have bush-lunch on the plains. Afternoon game drives, then hot bucket showers, and African sunsets with sundowners, 3-course meals and fire side chats, or star gazing. Whats not to love about living immersed in wildlife.
We may be camping, but we don't leave comfort to chance. We have everything you need, and nothing you don't for a home stay in the wild. Hot coffee, cold drinks, oven-baked croissants, hot showers, and 3-course dinners.
Our living area is a canvas mess tent - we open up in the day, and close up at night. This is the heart of the camp and is linked to the mobile trailer unit, which also houses the wrap around camp kitchen. On the mess tent side is a dining table, & all the eating things, plus coffee station & honesty bar & filtered water for drinking. On the kitchen side - there is a fridge, freezer, oven and the domain of our camp chefs.
Sleeping is in a canvas dome tent. We personally use a double memory foam mattress on the floor. All the tents can be configured as a double, twin or single, and we can even do triples. We have camp cots/stretchers on request, though the double definitely works better at ground level. There is a solar charged light in each tent and most people can stand in the tent. Each tent has side windows and a covered canopy over the door for a small patio.
Our ablutions: The toilet is a biochemical toilet with a manual pump flush, and no smell. It's not en-suite, but perfectly safe to use (day & night). We heat water on the fire each evening, and fill a bucket with the pre-mixed water in the shower cubicle. We collect water or have it delivered so please use water wisely. Roughly 20 litres per person per shower!
We live off the grid, so we are conscious of our power-usage as we are powered by the sun. There is more than enough to charge phones, batteries and computers. Charging is also possible in the safari-jeep.

My neighbourhood, the Serengeti National Park, is arguably the greatest national park in the world & home to the great migration. We have no light pollution, no noise pollution and very few human neighbours. Visitors are lions, elephants, giraffe, antelope and hundreds of thousands of wildebeest. The views change as the camp moves according to the season - but we have vast expanses of natural habitat and an abundance of wild African animals.
We have no local cafe, restaurant or pub - though we do stop at the Ranger Post or Local Airstrip, where there is WiFi.
We actually have 3 small camps that move or join together.
Little1 -This is our main Serengeti Camp in the central Serengeti near Seronera. This is the camp that is listed here, but makes a good combination for a couple of nights on the way to the migration camp in the peak crossing or calving seasons. Its a great stay all year round for longer.
Gnu camp is our GMC migration Camp is always as close to the migrating herds as possible for the best sightings. Generally the Ndutu area on the southern Plains for calving season and up near Kogatende at the Mara River for the river crossing season.
The other camp moves around to different locations and is mostly helping with elephant conservation near Mkomazi national park.

Like most platforms, LESS is MORE, is not rewarded. Our camp is almost carbon neutral, & only the fossil fuel for vehicles count towards our emissions. We are proudly off the grid, operating our power using gas and solar. Our camp(s) are a leave-no-trace camp. Water usage average is 20l pp per day. We are proud to have fewer amenities or unnecessary frills.
The Great Migration happens all year round, and is continuously on the move. Many think that the Mara River crossings ARE the great migration, they are just one part of the cycle. Great Migration Camps moves with the migrating herds of wildebeest. We have more than one safari camp, and they can be used on a journey into the national park or to double up if you have more than 6 people.
Serengeti National Park Fees:
As Great Migration Camps is in a National Park, you are required to pay National Park Fees & Special Campsite Fees. We can help facilitate the booking process for you.
Foreign Nationals
Adult $154 pp per day (includes the Park Fees and the Special Campsite Fees).
Children $36 (6 to 15.9 years)
Camp Crew and Meals: You are welcome to cook and prepare your own food, however we are not close to supermarkets or delivery service out in the bush, so supply is tricky! We do have our safari camp chefs on site, and it's well worth the $50 per day for 3 meals per day. Individual Meals can also be booked: Breakfast $15, Lunch $20, Dinner $25. These are prepared for you, and the dishes washed. The crew keeps you alive in the bush, they fetch water and prepare toilets and showers, so you can go on safari! We have an on-site honesty bar for your convenience.
Getting Around: Our camp vehicle is driven by our safari guide and goes on safari game drives daily. Book a seat or exclusive use of the vehicle per day, which includes safari guide and all fuel.
Getting There:
Air: The easiest option is to fly into the Serengeti from Arusha Airport. Our central camp is closest to Seronera airstrip. We will let you know the closest airstrip to any of our other camp in the Serengeti, or we can help you arrange the bush flights. Other flight destinations are possible>
Road: Guided-safari trips by road are possible for those wanting to road trip. Self-driving is possible but not easy, and not recommended without extensive 4x4 driving experience and ideally wildlife knowledge.
