We have a large, beautiful home in peaceful Waitati (15 minute drive north of Dunedin). From our lounge enjoy sweeping sunny north facing views over Blueskin Bay area. Our home has a large kitchen with high quality appliances, gas hob, Nespresso machine, air fryer, walk in pantry etc. Our home is heated and cooled by two large heat pumps and all windows are 2.5 glazing with an expansive outdoor area to take in the stunning views.
The "east wing" of our home has two north facing queen rooms with sliding doors and a further bedroom next to the main bathroom with a separate toilet. In the middle of our home, we have a large open plan living dining area with a cozy nook for relaxing and reading a book or playing the guitar. The "west wing" has a large north facing master bedroom with a sliding door and an ensuite, a separate laundry and office with high speed Wi-Fi with Starlink.
Our home is a real oasis and light and bright with views that are breathtaking all year round. We have Netflix, Neon a great selection of books, games and crafts supplies. All linen is provided. Outside, we have a kids playground, trampoline, outdoor seating area and spa pool (for the winter months by arrangement) with loads of parking and a walkway down to the large paddocks on our property.
If you want a stress free checkout we can arrange a cleaner for a fee of $180 NZ (if we are on holiday ourself the cleaner will need to be booked for your stay).
We have a 2008 Honda Odyssey 7 seater car which may be available on request / negotiation.
Please note our family home and the surrounding property is no-smoking and no vaping. We do have a dog that will be else where for any stays but our cat lives in our garage (he dose not come into the house) will be around, although it is unlikely you will see Loki as he is very timid and hides away on the property when visitors are staying.
Feel free to ask us about any dates even if the calander has not been marked for an exchange as we like to accommodate fellow Home Exchangers where we can.

The serenity!! it's a peaceful area with the main sound coming from the incredible bird life of Tui, Korimako (Bell Bird), Pīwakawaka (Fantails), Kererū (Wood Pigeon) and many other birds. Occasionally we even get a visit from the Kaka from the local Ecosanctuary and the very rare Mohua (Yellowhead the bird pictured on a NZ $100 note).
The local village Blueskin Bay is a 4 minute drive down the road with a handful of shops: Harvey Street Merchant a boutique delicatessen with fresh produce, freshly baked breads, cheeses, meats and by far the best ice-creams in Otago! Behind this you will find Blueskin Bay Nursery and Cafe is a must visit.
There is also Gallery on Blueskin is a fully licensed gallery and cafe which showcases a range of contemporary art, ceramics, jewelry & sculptures. The gallery has a small but excellent menu, offering lunch, afternoon tea and dinner with daily specials. Weekends often bring live music performances on the sheltered lawns to the rear of the gallery.
There is a "On the Spot" general store with a great range of grocery essentials, hot food, coffee, ice creams, beer and wine etc. They are also the local NZ Post agency and stock some magazines and hardware, home supplies.
Blueskin Bay also has a playground next to Bland Park (a few meters from Blueskin Nursery), a skateboard park and a library and on certain Sundays runs a local market.
There is also a beach's close by and beautiful walking tracks as well as the Orokonui Lagoon. The Orokonui Ecosanctuary is also within a 10-minute drive.
Arc Brewery is a destination brewery under 10 minutes' drive north, open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the brewery is an awesome spot for a relaxed bevvy and is accompanied by the food truck fare of the day.
Our local supermarket is Gardens New World we think is the best supermarket in Dunedin! Its situated 13 minutes drive away in North East Valley / North Dunedin just to the left of the motorway. (Opposite the Dunedin Botanical Gardens).
Travelling around Dunedin and Otago is best via car as there is limited bus options and no commuter rail network in the South Island.

Dunedin is New Zealand's oldest city and was once the capital of New Zealand. Dunedin is widely known for its amazing wildlife which includes the worlds' rarest penguin (Yellow Eyed Penguin) and worlds smallest penguin (Little Blue Penguin). There are a number of places you can visit for free to spot seals and sea lions and little blue penguins. We are also home to New Zealand's most photographed building (Dunedin Railway Station), the southern hemispheres only castles (Larnach Castle and Cargills Castle) and the worlds steepest street (Baldwin Street). Dunedin City, Otago Peninsular and surroundings have a lot on offer as does the Central Otago area (within 2-4 hours drive away).
Our home is located:
12 min to the worlds steepest street, Baldwin Street.
15 min drive to the Otago Museum with its own Butterfly World and Tuhura Science Centre (great hands on experiences for kids and adults). One of my favorite cafes are in the Museum called "Pricient".
15-20 min drive to Dunedin Train Station, one of the most photographed Flemish Renaissance-styled landmarks in New Zealand and rated the 12 most spectacular train stations in the world. Each year the iD Fashion week is held in Dunedin with a fashion show at the Dunedin Railway Station. The main platform becoming reputedly the world's longest catwalk.
Otago Farmers Market is held each Saturday morning next to the Dunedin Railway Station, where local artisan producers sell delicious treats, fresh produce, decadent pastries, cheeses, meats and great coffee. Something of a ritual for the locals and often have buskers adding to the festive feel.
Toitu the Otago Early Settlers Museum is also located next to the Railway Station and is free to visit and a great interactive place for kids and adults.
25 min drive to St Clair beach and esplanade area with great coffee shops, restaurants and hair salon and a few specialty shops and also home of the Dunedin Salt Water Pool and café which is an outdoor salt water pool open from October to April every year.
30 min to Tunnel Beach walk where you can go through a short 1870s excavated tunnel (with steps) to a secluded beach and a spectacular, rocky coastline. Care is needed on the way down to the beach and there is a bit of a steep climb on return to the car park, but the views are breathtaking. This is not a swimming beach as the beach area is tidal and prone to rogue waves so always check websites about the area and the tides before visiting.
40 min drive to Larnach Castle, New Zealand's and the southern hemispheres only operational castle, with magical views over the Otago Peninsula, beautiful gardens and a café and gift shop on site. (Dunedin is home to the only other southern hemisphere castle, Cargills Castle in St Clair however it is a ruin and access may be blocked as stabilization work is due to start in 2024).
50 minutes or so drive to the Royal Albatross colony, a beach to see seals and to Natures Wonders Tours where you can take a tour to ride the 6/8 wheel Argo tour and see fur seals, sea lions and the little blue penguins and hopefully a yellow eyed penguin too!
At times on the Otago Peninsula, especially Hoopers Inlet you can spot the Southern Lights in winter, during March to September and but particularly from June to July if you're lucky.
There's loads of excellent walking trails for all different levels around and just outside the city: www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go
6 min drive to the Orokonui lagoon track/boardwalk
7 min drive to Grahams Bush Walk Mount Cargill (Organ Pipes) track
12 min drive to Bethune's Gully Mount Cargill Track (Organ Pipes) track
24 min the Flagstaff Pineapple Track
Nice swimming beach:
5 minute drive to Doctors Point Beach
15 min drive to Long Beach
Moana Pool is an excellent facility is in the center of town, just up the hill from the Octagon and has great lap pools, dive pool, wave pool and hydro slide.
St Clair Salt Water Pool is an outdoor heated pool in St Clair beside the beach and open from October at the start of daylight saving to its end in April.
Mosgiel public pool has just recently opened in Mosgiel a 15 minute drive south of the Octagon.
North of Dunedin:
46 min drive to Moeraki Boulders and cafe
1.15 hrs drive to Oamaru a very cool old quarter and Steampunk HQ Museum with a Victorian heritage Precinct heritage where you will find, shops, galleries and traditional crafts, little blue penguins nearby and a factory lolly shop Rainbow sweets. The Victorian heritage of Oamaru and Steampunk is proudly celebrated each November during Oamaru’s Victorian Heritage Celebrations.
Just north of Oamaru there is Riverstone Castle and Restaurant and Cafe, giftshop and a unique wooden playground overlooking Dots Riverstone Castle that took 10 years to build and was completed in 2019.
2.5 hours drive aprox to Alexandra and Cromwell in Central Otago
3 hours drive aprox to Wanaka
3.5 hours drive aprox to Queenstown (Adventure capital of New Zealand with stunning scenery)
