Beskrivelse

Najia har beskrevet sitt hjem på engelsk.

Hva kommer du til å elske i dette hjemmet

Our home is spacious, warm and welcoming with lots of light. My son and I have made it our little haven in Jordan. It’s an apartment in the diplomatic neighborhood of Abdoun, steps away from coffee shops, restaurants, grocery store and more. We have a lovely caretaker for the building - Mahmoud who is always smiling and ready to help with anything and everything.

A small cleaning fee of 25JD is charged for stays of 3 days or more.

Hva du vil elske med dette nabolaget

Our home is in the diplomatic zone of Amman within walking distance from the US and other embassies. It’s a safe, lively residential neighborhood, in an excellent location. Steps away you’ll find two neighborhood coffee shops, several restaurants, salons, dry cleaners, grocery store and much more.

Why come to Jordan?

Petra and Wadi Rum are just two reasons:

1. Petra: The spectacular carved rock tombs of Petra in Jordan often top travel wishlists. But unlike many dream destinations, it’s actually fairly easy and not too expensive to visit Petra. There’s accommodation from tented camps to five-star resorts, there’s good public transport or it’s simple to drive yourself, it’s safe and the people are incredibly welcoming.

2. Wadi Rum (my favorite!)
Besides stunning desert landscape, Wadi Rum also boasts astounding cultural landscape. 25,000 petroglyphs (rock carvings), 20,000 inscriptions, and 154 archaeological sites have been discovered within this place, tracing the evolution of human thought and the early development of the alphabet.

Red Planet – Wadi Rum was used as the surface of Mars in this 2000 film. Mission to Mars - 2000 - A Brian De Palma film about a rescue mission to recover any survivors of the first crewed Martian mission, which met with a catastrophic and mysterious disaster.

It’s a 3+ hour drive from the capital Amman (and my home) to Petra and 45 minutes from there to Wadi Rum.

And here are more reasons to come to Jordan:

3. Jesus’ Baptism Site: Al-Maghtas, officially known as Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan", is an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan, on the east bank of the Jordan River, considered to be the original location of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist and venerated as such since at least the Byzantine period.

The baptism also altered the spiritual status of the water of the Jordan River. Early Christian writers asserted that Christ's immersion in the Jordan sanctified the river's water, which in turn made all water holy.

4. Jordan is home to the Dead Sea, which is considered the lowest point on earth lying - 408 meters below the Sea Level. The highest point in Jordan, in contrast, is Jebel Umm El Dami, which lies 1854 meters above sea level.

5. Mount Nebo is where, according to the Old Testament, Moses saw the land he would never enter. Because this mountain’s connection to the Moses story, it is a prominent place of Christian pilgrimage.

Recent excavations on Mount Nebo have uncovered the remains of a church dating from the 4th century AD, which contains spectacular Byzantine mosaics.

6. Machaerus is a hilltop fortress — purportedly the palace of Herod, King of Judea, during Jesus’s lifetime. This would have been where Salomé danced for Herod’s son, Herod Antipas, and where John the Baptist was later beheaded.

Standing on this hill, visitors can see stunning views of the Dead Sea and the West Bank.

7. Umm Qais: Formerly the city of Gadara, Umm Qais overlooks the Sea of Galilee. This is where Jesus might have performed the Miracle of the Gadarene Swine. One Biblical story states that upon meeting two men who lived in the tombs near the entrance of Gadara and who were possessed by demons, Jesus cast the demons out, channeling them into a herd of pigs. The pigs then ran off a cliff into the Sea of Galilee, where they drowned.

Today, Umm Qays treats its visitors to extraordinary views over the Sea of Galilee, the Yarmouk River, and the Golan Heights.

8. Pella: Pella is a Decapolis city dating back to the Bronze Age where the Bible says that Jacob, brother of Esau, wrestled all night with God in the form of an angel. The angel then deemed Jacob “Israel” because of his strength in battle. Jacob named the city Penuel, meaning “the face of God.”

Recently, a temple was discovered at Pella, which is thought to be the Holy Land’s best-preserved temple from Old Testament times.
