*Please check the calendar before messaging as I try to keep it up to date* We recommend AWD or 4WD due to the difficult gravel road, and it's necessary in winter.*
This home is on top of a mountain ridge at 4,300 feet elevation with beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains in a quiet community. It's remote and peaceful. You'll be rewarded after a long drive up about 3 miles of winding gravel road with some of the best views in the area. It is a tricky drive, so we recommend AWD and a higher ground clearance vehicle - no sports cars for sure - and the house is a rustic mountain cabin, but it is really a peaceful place with unsurpassed views. It has all the amenities you need and then some, but it isn't fancy. Spend your time sitting on the large deck in one of the rocking chairs or the hammock with some coffee from the coffeepot, Keurig, or French press, tea or hot chocolate, wine from the Biltmore Estate just an hour away, or one of the dozens of breweries within an hour. Take a hike in the area around the house. Have a picnic at the picnic table outside. Borrow a book or game from our library, turn on the smart tv and curl up in front of the fireplace, enjoy the views from the spacious windows and sliding glass doors, sit on the deck, and stargaze. In summer, the lightning bugs/fireflies after dark are amazing (google "synchronous fireflies in western NC"). Your kids will love the swings and ninja obstacle course set. It's meant for those seeking peace, solitude, nature, time with family and/or friends, but is under 40 minutes from charming Waynesville, NC, and less than an hour from all Asheville, North Carolina has to offer, as well as proximity to the Pigeon River, horseback riding, and an hour from Cataloochee skiing and elk preserve, and just over an hour to Dollywood and Pigeon Forge. There is a dining table that extends to seat 8 plus a table in the kitchen which seats 4. There's an outside dining table on the deck that can seat 6 plus a separate table for 2. *Absolutely no smoking indoors or outdoors due to allergies and wildfire risk.* There is a high chair, pack-n-play, play yard, child gate, toys, books, and many games for kids and adults, as well as a sandbox and swings outside. There is no a/c, but there are fans and window shades. At an elevation of 4,300 feet, air conditioning isn't necessary. Even on the hottest summer day, at night, temperatures are in the 60s or lower - perfect for roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. We also have many trees providing the house with shade. There is heat and a wood-burning fireplace. You may see deer, wild turkeys, black bears, raccoons, possums, bald eagles, bobcats, and many other varieties of birds, including birds of prey. This home has 3 bedrooms plus an office, which has a twin day bed with a trundle and connects to the upstairs full hall bath. The primary bedroom upstairs has a king bed and en suite and is located beside the office, which also connects to a bath with a shower. Down the narrow spiral staircase, you'll find 2 additional bedrooms (a full bed in one and a king in the other) and another full bathroom as well as laundry facilities. It's most comfortable for a maximum 4 adults and 4 children or some combination with about a max of 6-8.
See the calendar for availability. We generally try to do a 3-night minimum but are open to shorter for increased points or for a reciprocal exchange. When it’s reciprocal, we’re generally looking for homes suitable for a family vacation with a kid-friendly home (non-simultaneous is okay) with a pool, lake, creek, or other unique experience that's family-friendly (pet-friendly if drivable from KY is preferred as we have one adult dog who is well behaved), but occasionally we travel as a couple.

Hva du vil elske med dette nabolaget
The area is mostly vacation/second homes. It's in a private community in Clyde, North Carolina very near the Pigeon River and excellent rafting. The charming community of Waynesville is a 40 minute drive away and has breweries and world class restaurants. Skiing at Cataloochee is about an hour away, though you can see the slopes from our deck. Dollywood and Gatlinburg are a fun day trip of about an 1 hour and 15 minutes drive.
