Our house is just a few years old, having been completely rebuilt after the Christchurch earthquakes. It looks like the original old workers cottage from the outside, but inside is modern, quirky and makes the most of the space available.
We have one double bedroom and 3 singles and there are two bathrooms. There is a open plan kitchen/living area and a second living area upstairs in our mezzanine, where there is a sofa-bed. There's also a small kids area with a second TV.
There is underfloor heating throughout the house such that it is never cold anywhere in our house. But we also have a log burner for some ambience.
We have a deck overlooking the water and a small garden.

Lyttelton is the port town for Christchurch, the second largest city in New Zealand.
It is an eclectic town with a huge abundance of cafes, bars and restaurants. On Saturday mornings, the main Lyttelton street becomes a pedestrian only market for the morning, selling all sorts of organic produce, as well as crafts, art and coffee.
Our house is ten minutes walk from the centre of Lyttelton, and in the other direction less than 15 minutes walk to a sheltered bay, with lots of other bays further along within another 20 minutes walk.
We are also fifteen minutes drive from central Christchurch, which is steadily being rebuilt after our earthquakes and turning into an attractive new city, whilst retaining the best of its original architecture and beautiful open spaces and gardens. The Port Hills seperate Lyttelton from Christchurch and they offer many walks and mountain bike options, including the Adventure Park, where you can ride a chair lift with your bike to the top of the hills and choose from a large number of tracks to head down again.
Christchurch also offers surfing options at New Brighton, Sumner and Taylors Mistake. The Ferrymead estuary offers great windsurfing and kite boarding including for beginners.
Another hour away are the Southern Alps where in winter, there are a variety of ski field options and in summer the national parks to visit and hike through.
