Our 2,700 square foot family home has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings that connect the front room, kitchen, and family room. We have a third of an acre yard, with large sections of lawn in the front and back of the house, as well as on one side. One side's landscaping is undeveloped. Our home was built in 2001, and we live here with our boys ages 8, 6, and 4. Our front room will eventually be a more formal room where the kids aren't allowed to play, but for now it functions as a space a little removed from the bustle of the kitchen, with a comfy couch and a writing desk. Moving past the front room from our entry, you walk into the largest room/s of the house: the kitchen and family room -- one open space. The kitchen is a good size and is moderately equipped. The island accommodates the large sink and a new dishwasher, with plenty of work space on the granite counter-top (granite counters are found throughout the home). Our dining table can accommodate eight with leaves added. We also have a highchair available. The carpeted family room has a sliding glass door leading out to the patio and backyard. A gas fireplace makes this the room everyone congregates in! We've left the floor space open (rather than furnished with a coffee table) so that there's plenty of room for our kids to play. We don't have a TV -- we tend to watch shows in the theatre room downstairs or on our laptops. The bedrooms have tended to get the least attention in terms of furnishings/decorations, but they are functional and comfortable. In the master bedroom, our plain (no headboard yet) but memory-foam topped queen bed shares the space with two mismatched but comfortable reading chairs. The master bathroom has a shower and a jetted tub. The two upstairs kids' bedrooms are small. One is equipped with a child/toddler bunk bed; one currently serves as an office. The "kids" bathroom upstairs has a tub/shower and a long vanity. We have two large bedrooms downstairs, one with a queen-size bed, the other with a bunkbed. The downstairs bathroom has a large stone and glass shower (no tub). There is a laundry room leading to the 2-car garage with a large capacity washer and dryer upstairs, and a second laundry room with a washer and dryer downstairs. Downstairs we also have another full kitchen, and a large theater room with a 90-inch screen and a nice 1080p projector hooked up to a Roku. This is our first home, and after having lived in small apartments for many years, we are still in the process of acquiring furnishings and organizational tools to complete the space. While we're not the Ritz, we're sure you'll find it a comfortable and enjoyable space for your family.
While it's true that we live in a suburban area, we have been told by some of our visitors that it actually feels semi-rural. This may be partially due to the fact that we live in a quiet neighborhood with many horse properties (and the occasional rooster). There are no sidewalks, and while we have wonderful neighbors behind us and on either side, our view from the front window is unobscured thanks to a large church parking lot, giving us a view of the northern peaks in Salt Lake Valley's mountain range (the Wasatch mountains). From the dining room and one or two vantage points in the back yard, there are beautiful views of Lone Peak, the large and beautiful mountain near us that the sun rises over each morning.
We are a 15-minute drive from both the Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, which are a beautiful drive, and of course contain Utah's famous ski resorts, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude. These canyons offer wonderful possibilities for outdoor fun, year-round.

We are close to both the Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, which are a beautiful drive, and of course contain Utah's famous ski resorts, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude. These canyons offer wonderful possibilities for outdoor fun, year-round. Deer frequent our neighborhood, especially in the winter, so drive carefully.
We live a short distance from town, but our quiet neighborhood feels fairly non-urban with various horse properties nearby. The nearest grocery store is 1.3 miles away. Light-rail is 2.5 miles away, and an abundance of shopping and restaurants is roughly 3 miles away (about a 7-minute drive), as is the interstate. Downtown Salt Lake City is less than 30 minutes away.
