What you will love about this home
Richard Martin, a green designer/builder in the Berea area for more than 30 years, built the 'Little House' in the mid-'90s as his personal residence. The house has unique features of the house (including its very own water wheel!) and is perfect for that couple's get-away or writer's retreat.
The home features passive solar design with windows spanning the south side of the home with loads of natural light. The open floor plan includes a loft bedroom (queen bed) that overlooks the living area. If you are looking for a unique place to stay, with beautiful views, close to hiking and outdoor activities, and within a short drive to lots of central Kentucky destinations, this is it!

What you will love about this neighborhood
The houses are located just outside of Berea. Known as the "Folk Arts and Crafts" capital of Kentucky, Berea is home to a thriving population of weavers, instrument makers, furniture artisans, jewelry designers, glass workers, potters, painters, sculptors, and musicians. The story of Berea’s artisan community is interwoven with the historic Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Berea has a longstanding tradition of diversity, social justice, environmental responsibility, and community service. Both college and town are committed to the practice of sustainability and conservation, so you can see why Mr. Martin's skills were in high demand.
Berea College owns and maintains over 8,000 acres of forest, including numerous hiking trails within a few miles of the house.
Berea is located in central Kentucky, 40 miles south of Lexington, on the border of Kentucky's Bluegrass region and the Cumberland Plateau in the foothills of Kentucky's Appalachian mountains. Berea is located in the southern end of Madison County, which is one of the fastest growing areas in Kentucky. It is rich in heritage and history. The County is unique in that it has two townships, Berea, and the larger, Richmond, just 12 miles to the north. The County sits next to Fayette County with the Kentucky River as its border. The northern end of the county just is minutes away from Lexington, the horse capital of the world.
The houses central location also allows for day trips to several cities and well known regional attractions, which include: Fort Boonesborough State Park (35 minutes) Frankfort, the state capital and home to a number of historic attractions (1.25 hours), Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge (1.25 hours), Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (1.25 hours), KY Bourbon Trail (various destinations ranging from 1 to 2 hours), Cumberland Falls State Park (1.5 hours), Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby (2 hours), Cincinnati, home of the Cincinnati Reds and Skyline Chili (2 hours), Mammoth Cave National Park, the longest cave system in the world (2.5 hours).
