Description

Russell has described his/her home in English.

What you will love about this home

Our home was built in the 1990's on a flat section opposite parkland in McCormacks Bay. It is part of the suburb of Mt.Pleasant by an estuary in the SE part of Christchurch city (Population 350,000) The downstairs is an open-plan living area with a sunny outlook opening onto gardens. Heated (or cooled in summer) by a heatpump. Kitchen includes a dishwasher & ceramic rangetop. There is a large TV in the lounge. A double garage has internal access, and a full laundry and guest toilet also downstairs. The bedrooms are upstairs (2 double and 1 single) and overlook the local road and reserve and large trees opposite. The main one has a deck, and an ensuite with shower, a walk-in wardrobe, and a TV. A second bathroom includes a shower over a full-sized bath. BBQ and table and chairs in the garden. Please note that we have a Birman cat to share your stay with. She likes company (when awake mostly late afternoon and evening) and is easy care. We just leave biscuits with water out for her, (no tinned or other cat food or milk)

What you will love about this neighborhood

From our door there are several quiet estuary walks on the flat area, or others up the valley and onto the Port Hills for some grand views of the nearby ocean as well. We are only 5 minutes drive from several beaches for walking and swimming in the summer and some longer loop tracks with spectacular scenery e.g. Godley Head Walkway. There is a new sealed cycle and walking path of several kilometres alongside the estuary to Sumner just a few minutes walk away.
The Port Hills of Banks Peninsula are on our doorstep and Lyttelton port and village just 10 minutes drive via a tunnel under the hills.
The city centre is 15 minutes drive away, Parts of the central city has had significant redevelopment in recent years with many new cafes & bars and upmarket shops.
Christchurch is known as "the garden city" with large botanical gardens near the city centre. It is also a major cultural centre with museums, concert venues, and street markets.
Around 2 hours drive east of our home are quaint harbour-side settlements e.g. Akaroa on Banks Peninsula (French background) ; to the north the thermal hot pools (Hanmer Springs); a little further on whale-watching (Kaikoura). To the west lakes, forests, mountain trails (e.g. Arthurs Pass National Park) Also west are several winter-time ski fields.
