Additional information

Our situation is unclear right now. We would like to travel in mid-August, but cannot make any guarantees just yet. However, if you are interested in an exchange with us, let's talk, and see whether our limitations can be made to work for you.

Waterloo, population about 100,000, is the home of two fine universities, and a centre of technical excellence. It is safe yet dynamic. Our central location in South-West Ontario permits easy day trips to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Wasaga Beach, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival, Elora Gorge, the St. Jacobs Farmers Market or Canada's Wonderland. But there is lots to do much nearer to home. We are five minutes from Laurel Lake, and an hour from Rockwood Conservation Area, with its ancient geology, fossil-filled limestone bedrock, and placid waters for you to explore in rental canoes. You may use either our 7-seat 2011 Toyota Sienna (great for larger families) or 4-seat 2009 BMW 335 coupe.

In August you'll enjoy many free local events: the Jazz Festival in Uptown Waterloo, Movies under the Stars in Waterloo Park and 12 Bar Blues Festival in Kitchener are always favourites. Local theatre is inexpensive and fun, and Kitchener's Centre in the Square has outstanding acoustics for concerts both classical, with our exceptional Symphony Orchestra, and modern, with well-known artists performing frequently.

Waterloo has many excellent restaurants and friendly pubs for those nights when you don't want to cook. Although, since August is a perfect month to enjoy fruit and vegetables from our local farms, you might very well prefer to stay home. We like to go to Herrle's Farm Market, or the St. Jacobs market, in Old Order Amish country, both 10 min away for the freshest local produce.

Entering our centre-hall style home, the dining room and open area are to the right and the living room is to the left. Our kitchen faces the back porch. Its antique workbench makes a functional food prep area. Upstairs we have three spacious bedrooms. The principal bedroom has a king-size bed (200cm by 200cm) and ensuite bath with a large Jacuzzi-style tub. A queen-sized bed (150cm L by 200cm W) is in the second bedroom and a double bed (140cm L by 180cm W) in the third bedroom.

On hot August days, you'll appreciate both central air-conditioning and swimming at the private community pool just up the street. Evenings may find you enjoying the broad front veranda, or barbecuing out back or relaxing in the screened gazebo. Wi-fi is available for email or surfing the internet. There are two televisions, both with cable TV service, Netflix and digital recorders.

We can supply a fold-up crib and highchair for your baby, and are well-equipped with toys for young children, as well as an outdoor climber, swingset, a covered sandbox, and lots of safe space to play.
