What you will love about this home
Quillan is a small town at the foot of the Pyrenees (3,000 inhabitants) and has everything you need. There are supermarkets, restaurants, cinema, pharmacy, butcher, epicerie etc. And twice a week a cosy market.
The town is a good starting point for day trips by car. Limoux, the capital of the Departement Aude with its vineyards is 20 minutes away, in 45 minutes you get to France's second largest tourist attraction: Cité de Carcasson. In just 75 minutes driving you can swim in the mediterranean sea and nearest ski area is an hour away. To Andorra it is only 1,5 hours driving.
There are many beautiful hiking trails with fascinating panoramic views for beginners as well as for experienced hikers. A lot of the hikes start directly behind our house at the old castle.
Quillan has a (very) little public swimming pool which is open during summer time and a little artificial lake for swimming with a beach bar. If the river Aude has enough water, there are several white water rafting opportunities in the near.
The river Aude runs through the the village – and our small, charming townhouse is located directly at the river quay. Quai Pozadou, our street is not very busy.
The house is our secondary home. It has 72 sqm and has been completely renovated. It is a little gem!
The view from the terrace over the river to the houses of the old town is impressive and has something magical. You immediately calme down from everything , feel relaxed - holidays :-)
On the ground floor is the bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with shower. The stairs to the 1st and 2nd floor are – as is common in old houses in France – quite steep and narrow. Therefore, our house is not suitable for children or dogs.
It is suitable for a maximum of 3 people
The living room on the 1st floor has a fireplace and a fold-out sofa bed of 1.20 m width.. On this floor you find the 2nd bathroom, also with shower and washer and dryer.
The kitchen with dining table is located on the 2nd floor and is well equipped with 2 ovens, gas/electric stove, fridge-freezer, microwave (in the cupboard if desired). No dishwasher!
The special thing about this room, where we spend most of the time, is the window front to the terrace, which can be pushed completely to the side and thus gives the room size.
We just love this spot. In the morning the sun rises behind us and casts its light on the mountains opposite, making them shine. Vultures often circle majestically. The view of the river is meditative. In the evening, the sun sets behind the mountains opposite. In two minutes you are in the town center (which is pretty small) and yet at a pleasant distance away in times when festivities take place.
Important to know: There is no wifi in the house. The place has a free wifi but unfortunately it is not continously stable.
