What you will love about this home
I bought my home for the spectacular views of one of the most prominent mountains in the United States. Mount San Jacinto soars above the energetic city of Palm Springs, California.
Also, I love living on a huge piece of land (108,000 sf / 10,000 square meters) that is a natural desert garden.
The house is a well-built mid century home with more than 1000 sf of decks from which to enjoy the panoramic views. There is also a large front patio with comfortable seating and a gas barbecue. For year round comfort there is air conditioning, but most of the time I use the evaporative coolers, which are efficient and maintain coastal level humidity.
Some people think the desert is always hot, but that is simply not true. 9-10 months of the year the daily high temperature is low 70's to high 80's. And in summer my house never gets as warm as Palm Springs.

What you will love about this neighborhood
Morongo Valley is a small Hi Desert town with just 3200 residents. It is a peaceful, quiet, safe and secure place. Palm Springs is 25 minute drive... famous for its modern architecture, cafes and bars, and luxury golf courses.
Best of all, it is just a 30 minute drive to the Joshua Tree National Park, which is a truly amazing place full of rock formations, picnic areas, and more than 100 miles of hiking trails. In order to enjoy these vast spaces a rental car is pretty essential. There is an excellent express bus from Palm Springs to downtown Los Angeles. Palm Springs Airport.
If you are flying from Europe or the East Coast, I recommended looking into flights to Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), much more pleasant than LAX.
For years I have been a MeetUp tour guide hosting art events and nature tours, so I can provide abundant information about the sites of the desert. I've lived most of my life in Los Angeles, so if you visit LA I have many suggestions for cultural sites, restaurant, and special spots on the California Coast.
Four miles down the hill from my house is the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve featuring 31,000-acres of native plant habitats and wildlife.

Additional information
I am an easy going and open-minded person.
I like the serendipitous aspect of Home Exchange. I appreciate the offers I've had from a number of other members. But I should mention that I have a second home in Los Angeles, so I don't really need an exchange there. And as a SoCal native, I'm very fond of the weather here, and don't see myself traveling to really cold places in winter.
My passion is making art and one of a kind modern furniture. I have been an art and design educator for most of my adult life. Teaching is a passion, and after years happily teacher at a private university in Los Angeles, I now have my own nonprofit project to teach art here at my studio which is located next to my home in the peaceful community of Morongo Valley.
I love to travel. I prefer to stay in one spot for a week or two, and take day trips to places nearby.
I love to spend time in Italy, Spain, and France, and my new favorite place, Portugal. I would also like to visit the Netherlands, having only been once for a couple days when I was a college student.
I love living in California. And having lived there for a year when I was young, spending time in any of the Hawaiian Islands is a pleasure.
I like the idea of a reciprocal exchange, as I think it would interesting to get to know people in other countries. In addition to being an art teacher, I have hosted numerous art/design/music tours and gatherings. I am also passionate about food, especially the vast variety of ethnic food in Los Angeles. I have attended and hosted almost 400 MeetUp events. It has been one of my favorite ways to connect with new people.
So I can definitely provide a lot of ideas and information if Southern California is new to you.
I put some dates on the calendar, but I am flexible.
I will once again be part of the Hi Desert Highway 62 Open Studios. It is one of the largest open studio events in the United States. So when that concludes on October 18th, I'll have much more freedom to travel. Also, October through May is the best time to visit the desert.
I look forward to sharing this beautiful place, with a lush natural desert garden, and views in all directions.
Feel free to contact me with any thoughts or questions about a possible home exchange.
Thanks, Michael
