What you will love about this home
Quaint, quiet, and convenient, a 5-minute walk to Main Street’s shops, restaurants, library, and The Triplex cinema. In the other direction, it's a short walk to the Lake Mansfield park/reserve, redesigned and made car-free. The house was built in 1868 and is listed on the National Historic Register.
What you will love about this neighborhood
Known as The Hill, the neighborhood is listed on the National Historic Register. It is full of historic houses, huge trees, and quiet streets for strolling. At night, it's completely dark and silent, but at the same time it's completely walkable - you could be here for a week and never get into a car! The Berkshire Coop, just across Main Street, is like a mini Whole Foods, and there are lots of restaurants as well.
Additional information
Key features:
• Two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a twin.
• Spacious living/dining room.
• High ceilings and lots of light. Hardwood floors throughout.
• Remote working space with business internet.
• Fireplace/woodstove. Steam radiators.
• Miele washer and dryer.
• Off-street parking. Barn space for bikes.
• Outdoor space with picnic table.
Other features:
• Lots and lots of books. Record player with vinyl records. Board games.
• Friendly, walkable, and popular neighborhood.
• Close to Simon's Rock College and peaceful Lake Mansfield (kayak, paddle board, open-water swimming, town beach).
• Rock climbing and bouldering nearby, great cycling, and two ski areas.
Things to consider:
• The house, built in 1868, is not a “smart” home. A flat-screen TV with Roku and business internet is as hitech as it gets.
• The 2 floors are connected by a central wooden staircase, painted rather than carpeted, and somewhat steep by modern standards.
• There is not (yet) air-conditioning. Most of the time the ceiling and other fans are more than sufficient, but we are in the process of getting heat pumps. (The duplex is on the west side of the house and shaded by trees along the driveway, and the bedrooms upstairs are in the northwest of the building.)
