Description

Nigel and Karen has described his/her home in English.

What you will love about this home

Our home is a classic beach house with stunning views of the Indian Ocean situated in the quiet hamlet of Paradise Beach 5 miles drive from the surfing resort of Jeffreys Bay. Our house has all mod cons - washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, American style fridge/freezer, new hob and oven and also includes a traditional indoor braai.

Sadly in South Africa electricity is subject to "load shedding", which is when capacity fails to meet demand. To overcome this problem our house has an inverter/battery system installed meaning there is always electricity in our property.

There is a bijou garden surrounding the property which is completely fenced in and in addition to a large garage there is hard parking for a further 2 vehicles on the front drive.

Our house has Wi-Fi and a home cinema with 7.1 surround sound.

There is air conditioning in both bedrooms, the main sitting room and home cinema room .

There are two low mileage vehicles (a Ford Ranger and Ford EcoSport) in the garage which could be included in the swap.

Paradise Beach has perfect conditions for wind and kite surfing as well as fishing.

What you will love about this neighborhood

Paradise Beach is a suburb of Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa situated about 80 kilometres west of Port Elizabeth. Paradise Beach itself is a long sweep of white sand, onto which the warm blue of the Indian Ocean laps. This beach is perfect for water sports like kite boarding, windsurfing, surfing or jet-skiing. It is also great for swimming, tanning or just taking a leisurely stroll. The serenity of this area makes for perfect photo opportunities. Paradise Beach actually includes a quiet suburb that is bordered by nature reserves and picturesque estuaries. This means that the natural abundance of wildlife around it is readily observed and includes otters, small antelope, tortoise and a number of beautiful bird species including flamingos.

About 5 miles drive away you will find Jeffreys Bay itself – or "J-Bay" as it is known to the locals, brings to mind surfing, sunshine and beautiful beaches. Rated among the ten best surfing spots in the world, surfers from across the globe come to enjoy the rolling surf. The beaches are safe and the water is warm, so swimming and water sports are the main pastime. As if this weren’t enough of an invitation, this stretch of the coast is also home to dolphins that grace the waves and there are often whale sightings. There are also a variety of shells that visitors collect by the handful - and they’re welcome to do so. You can see local shells displayed in the Shell Museum alongside shells from other countries. Next to the Shell Museum there is a very helpful Tourist Information Office.

This part of the Eastern Cape has a unique climate - the landscape is mainly flat and dry between the sea and the distant mountains and the natural vegetation is typically aloes, fynbos, sour figs and shrub land.

In addition to the water sports there are a number of other activities to do whilst staying in Jeffreys Bay these include: mountain bike rides, beach horse rides, a golf course, a bowls club, river cruises, quad biking and hiking trails to name a few.

The area has a number of nature reserves, which also draw visitors. Kabeljous Estuary and Nature Reserve is a walk-about reserve that has a safe swimming beach and is an excellent fishing and bird-watching area. The Noorsekloof Nature Reserve has a 3km trail running alongside a stream from which you can see many species of bird and some small buck. If it is bird-watching you are after, then the Seekoei River Estuary is the place to go. There is an abundance of water fowl and a hide overlooking the river.

Jeffreys Bay is also at the start of the Garden Route and an ideal base from which to visit the Addo Elephant Park and the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve. It is only 45 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth where there is an international and domestic airport.

There are many good beach front restaurants in Jeffreys Bay including Kitchen Windows, Die Walskipper, De Viswijf and The Greek Restaurant plus many more all offering superb value for money both in terms of food and stunning South African wines and beers. We can advise of other restaurants dependant on your specific preferences.

On to retail – There are three shopping malls the largest of which is Fountains Mall -shop to your hearts content and then make your way to the boutiques and lifestyle / beauty salon stores or go and see a movie at one of the cinemas.

Take a leisurely drive to St Francis which is idyllic and touted as the country’s answer to ‘little Venice” being made up of a series of little man-made canals and waterways. The bay includes Port St Francis, St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay. St Francis Bay lies alongside Cape St Francis at the estuary of the Kromme River. Here you will find more excellent restaurants.

Head off towards Port Elizabeth and enjoy the range of shopping malls including BayWest, on the N2 – a big, modern mall with chain stores, a food court, an IMAX movie theatre, bowling alley and arcade or head into Port Elizabeth itself to enjoy Sixth Avenue Shopping Centre, Moffett Retail Park and the Boardwalk Mall.

Also around the Port Elizebeth area you could visit Fairview Racecourse or maybe take a trip around the Lion Park or mini safari at Kragga Kamma.
Recently opened in December 2022 is a new game park called Nyosi Wildlife Reserve however our personal favourite is Pumba Game Reserve.
