What you will love about this home
Our 1,850 Sq Ft family home is located in a friendly and quiet neighborhood of Costa Mesa beach town, with a park just behind the property and a view of the beautiful Saddleback Mountain from the front garden. The house has just been completely remodeled with a modern Scandinavian feel and is ideally located for some of California's finest beaches e.g. Newport Beach is a 15 minute drive. It is about a 50 minute drive from LA Airport, 90 minutes to San Diego and a couple of hours to Big Bear Mountain - likely to have snow in the winter. Disney is also a short drive away. The coastal climate is lovely in SoCal all year, we do however have central heating installed controlled by Nest to warm the house if needed and Air Conditioning plus 'Quiet Cool' whole house fan system. We will be able to put you in touch with our trusted baby sitter should you wish to arrange a parent night out.
What you will love about this neighborhood
Costa Mesa is a SoCal Beach Town and known as 'City of the Arts'. It's just off the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), nestled between Huntington Beach (home of the Beach Boys) and Laguna Beach (California's St Ives). Mesa Del Mar is a quiet and friendly suburb, ideally located for restaurants, arts venues, shops and major transport links (freeways, train and local airport).
- Buzzy restaurants: One of California's attractions is it's cultural diversity and there is a wide selection of interesting dining options within close proximity, ranging from Michelin rated informal fine dining, the best Tacos and incredible Vietnamese food at the nearby Little Saigon area of Westminster.
- Cool bars: We love the local micro breweries - Barley Forge, Salty Bear, Gunwhale and Bootleggers are all about a 20 minute walk (perhaps longer on the way back!). Wine lab at the nearby Camp 'anti mall' is also walkable and a favourite. Sunset cocktails are always fun, try the Deck at nearby Laguna Beach to watch the sunset and potentially the latest Space X launch. The Observatory is a fantastic place to catch cool bands.
- Cozy cafés: There are many nearby, the nearby Camp and Lab in particular - including great catering for vegan and vegetarian meals.
- Retail therapy: South Coast Plaza is 10 minutes away and has everything from Uniqlo to Louis Vuitton. Apparently its annual sales of over USD 1.5Bn are the highest in the States, don't worry though - no need to contribute to that unless you'd like!
- Bit of culture: Laguna Beach has been an Artistic hub since the 1930s and is a 20 minute drive along the coast. LA is home to world class galleries such as LACMA and The Broad. The Segerstom Center is a beautiful concert and arts venue, only a 10 minute drive. The local music scene is buzzing and you'll find anything from big UK bands playing small bars to larger US bands playing one of the many local amphitheatres.
- Walks in the park: There is a park right behind the house, which one can get to through a gate in the back garden, complete with water features, duck/turtle ponds, tennis courts, skate park and an excellent playground (including sandpit) for the kids.
- Spot of exercise: Surf is always up! The area is also brilliant for hiking trails, cycling, golf, outdoor racquetball, paddle boarding, swimming, sailing and running - with the beautiful 'Back Bay' estuary ten minutes away. There are tennis courts in the park behind the house, as well horse stables with riding lessons. Skiing is also possible at Big Bear during the winter. Being California, you'll never be more that a few minutes away from a Yoga class.
- Day tripping: The Pacific Coast Highway is minutes from the home and consistently listed as one of the top ten things to experience in California. There are many lovely spots up and down the coast, including Solvang (worth checking). The house is also well placed to experience the desert (Joshua Tree and Palm Springs are a couple of hours away and a lovely drive) as well as SoCal's wine regions - Temecula is also with a couple of hours and full of fantastic Vineyards.
