What you will love about this home

Unwind at Tom's Roost in South Orleans, on the peaceful side of the Cape! It's a short walk to a private beach on Little Pleasant Bay from this fully separate 1-BR apartment in our comfortable home, on a wooded lane across from a small pond. Yet you're just 10-15 minutes from the center of Orleans or the upscale village of Chatham, 20 minutes from famed Nauset Beach, and less than a half-hour from the magnificent beaches of Cape Cod National Seashore.

With its own entrance and paved patio, Tom's Roost feels like you’re up in the trees! Carpeted stairs lead from entrance hall to the light-filled, tastefully furnished, perfectly kept rooms looking across to the pond. Central AC, HDTV with Roku, good Wifi. Bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, firm with a gel topper; in the living room is a full-size sleeper couch. An inflatable kiddie bed is available. There's a laundry room and a well-equipped kitchen with custom cabinets, Corian counters, D/W, glass-top electric range/microwave, and basic supplies. Tiled bath with oversize jetted tub and rain shower, tons of closet space, oak floors throughout. Outside the entrance is a stone patio overlooking lane and pond with table/chairs and a Weber gas grill.

The space is ideal for a couple, 3 adults, or a family with up to 2 children; we can accommodate 4 people, but 2 adults sharing the sleeper couch is cozy!

Our private beach (shared with half a dozen households) is 400 yards from the house, walking access only. It's great for swimming (no sharks!), kayaking, paddle-boarding, or just beachcombing and exploring. We provide beach towels, chairs, umbrella, sand toys. Our neighborhood is laced with hiking trails and quiet streets for biking; the popular Cape Cod Rail Trail is accessed from downtown. The outdoor life is what most people come for, but these days the Cape also has fine restaurants, high-end galleries, and year-round entertainment.

We're usually in residence and always available for information and advice -- but the apartment has great privacy and sound separation. (We do have quiet hours starting at 9 pm.) The apartment is used for weekly rentals during the summer, but is often available for exchanges from early autumn through late spring. Those are wonderful times to enjoy the Cape; our maritime climate is usually mild compared to the "mainland" even in December. And we're open to holiday exchanges, if you have family gathering nearby.

We have one friendly cat, who may greet you in the driveway but isn't allowed in the apartment so it can stay allergen-free.

What you will love about this neighborhood

South Orleans is situated between Orleans center and the village of Chatham, a favorite shopping and strolling destination. Both towns have a wide range of restaurants, from seafood shacks to high-end dining at resorts like Wequassett and Chatham Bars Inn. Provincetown, with its galleries, charming streets, and magnificent harbor, is 50 minutes away; in between are picturesque Wellfleet and Truro, and the huge expanse of Atlantic Ocean beaches in Cape Cod National Seashore

Our immediate neighborhood is wooded and quiet, with little lanes winding down to saltwater beaches and marshes on the Pleasant Bay estuary. Most are private, like Tom's Hollow Lane, and beach access is prized. We're surrounded by protected conservation land with wonderful walking trails. Summer sailing camps once occupied the land around our lane; there are still only a few houses. The name "Tom's Hollow" dates from the 19th century, but no one knows who Tom was!
