Descripción

Lo que te va a encantar en esta casa

Our home is a single-family, single-story house overlooking the former Koele golf course and wooded Munro Ridge beyond. Since purchasing 98% of Lana'i in 2012, billionaire Larry Ellison has begun carefully converting the course into a serene sculpture garden, with manicured fairways and former cart paths transformed into a tranquil park and runner's paradise.

Almost every window looks out onto verdant lawns and woods, home to axis deer and wild turkey, but with hardly another structure in sight.

Our home has two spacious bedrooms (one with king, one with queen bed) and adjacent baths, a den with queen pullout couch, and spectacular modern gourmet kitchen. We have a fireplace, computer, internet, wi-fi, cable TV, and house-wide sound system.

After a warm, sunny day at Hulopo'e Beach, it is delightful to cool off upcountry-style. At 1700ft elevation, it's typically 10 degrees F cooler at the house than at the beach 15 minutes away. As ocean trade winds push up the island slope, our home is often both shaded and cooled by dramatic clouds, enjoying romantic misty mornings and light, passing showers at night.

Note that our home is on the island of Lana'i, accessible either by air or a 45-minute ferry from Lahaina, Maui.

Lo que te va a encantar del barrio

Lana'i City (pop. 3,000) is Hawaii's only plantation town, just walking distance away, with quaint shops, restaurants, cultural center, and movie theater. There are no traffic lights on the island (and no traffic for that matter), and drivers wave as they pass by.

Hulopo'e Beach, certainly one of Hawaii's most beautiful and least crowded, is 15 minutes away by car, with pristine white sand, picnic tables, BBQ grills, clean public bathrooms, outdoor showers, surfing, snorkeling, tide pools, and permit camping. Spinner dolphins leap and play just off shore year-round, and whales spout and fluke in winter. The ocean water is comfortably warm for swimming all year.

From Manele Harbor, just a short walk from Hulopo'e, Trilogy Excursions offers truly excellent snorkel sails and scuba boat dives. Deep sea fishing charters go out from Manele, bringing in catches of Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), Ono (Wahoo), Ahi (Yellow fin tuna) and Blue Fin Marlin.

The jogging path just outside our back door winds through a gently sloping grassy park bordered with koa and pine, past gardens, water features, an orchid greenhouse, pastures, and stables.

Hikers enjoy the (5 mile round-trip) Koloiki and (12 mile end-to-end) Munro Ridge trails, with breath-taking views of neighboring islands Molokai and Maui.

The Lana'i Four Seasons Resort Adventure Center offers day visitors horseback riding, mountain biking, 4x4 adventures, off-roading, archery, and sporting clays.

Listed among the world's finest resorts, the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay is set cliffside, overlooking a protected marine preserve where turquoise blue water meets a crescent white-sand beach. Dining options at the Four Seasons include Nobu Lana'i, Malibu Farms, One Forty, and the Views:

* Nobu Lana'i offers signature new-style Japanese cuisine, as well as new creations infusing local Hawaiian ingredients.

* Malibu Farms, perched above Hulopo'e Bay, specializes in healthy, flavorful fare such as vegan coconut curry, Caesar BLT salad and locally caught fish.

* One Forty, a Four Diamond AAA ocean-view restaurant, shines with exquisite dishes prepared with local ingredients, prime and Wagyu beef, as well as seasonal Hawaiian fish.

* The Views offers light lunch selections with vistas of the greens, Hulopo'e beach and the rocky Pacific shore.

Lana'i is an island unlike any other in Hawaii, far from the madding tourist crowd. It's peaceful, friendly, and unrushed -- the Hawaii of yesteryear, dreams and imagination.
