Was Sie an dieser Unterkunft lieben werden
We are 7 minutes walk from the Seaside Beach Park and Sliders Bar and Grill. The board walk follows a shaded trail from our neighborhood through the forest to the beach.
We built a custom house in 2022 with a unique layout and eclectic atmosphere. Elsa did all the paintings and the furniture / decor reflects our lives in S. Africa, Australia and London as well as our travels through Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The open plan living area is spacious and has a gorgeous view over and indigenous subtropical forests of live oak trees with Spanish moss. A sliding glass door connects the open plan living area with a huge covered porch. There is parking space on the driveway for two vehicles.
There is a double bed in each bedroom. Each bedroom also has its own en-suite bathroom. One bathroom has a shower/tub combo and the other one has a regular shower. The bathroom with the shower has a second door for access from the hallway. Both bedrooms have walk-in closets where there will be ample space for your clothes.
We have four bicycles that can be used by guests for cycling in the neighborhood, the greenway and the state park trails, but not on the beach. Our beach equipment, boogie board, gazebo and camping chairs may be used on the beach.

Our home is in a quiet cull de sac adjacent to Egan's Creek in an upscale neighborhood. We are also just "across the street" from Egan's Creek Greenway Trail which offers marsh views and miles of hiking and biking.

The historic downtown of Fernandina Beach is 10 minutes drive away and the area abounds with craft breweries, restaurants and bars. You can also visit antique shops, arts and crafts shops, a local farmers market, several historic buildings and Fort Clinch state park, Cumberland Island and Boneyard Beach.

The following comments are by no means comprehensive, but it reflects what we personally enjoy.
A day trip to Cumberland Island blends forest, beach, historic ruins and a ferry ride.
Ft Clinch is historically interesting with serene marsh views along bike and walking trails shaded by a live oak and Spanish moss covered, tree canopy.
An educational activity going south along the coast is to visit the historic Kingsley plantation. The plantation is interesting, but I find the topic of slavery sad and depressing, although it is fascinating to see how different the world was back then, once you absorb the stories of individuals of the time.
I would rather spend more time on the way back to explore Boneyard Beach - an amazing spot for artistic photography after a forest walk of about a mile. Our young adult kids like to do all kinds of silly yoga poses on the trunks ;-)
A good spot for fossil and shark tooth hunting is anywhere between Seaside Park (Sliders Bar and Grill) and Fort Clinch State Park. The park also has lots of shaded hiking and biking trails. You are welcome to use our two bicycles (just not on the beach please) Additional bicycles can be rented at Seaside park
Egan's Creek greenway also has lots of hiking and biking trails and can be reached "from our backyard".
Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach is a must for art, architecture, historic buildings, antique shops, bars and restaurants. My favorite restaurant is the Caribo Cafe - the outdoor patio has a great relaxed atmosphere. Restaurants within walking distance of our house are:
Sliders Bar and Grill with live music in the evenings
Hamerhead Biker Bar with pool hall
The Surf restaurant with a shaded patio
Cedar River Sea Food
Dairy Queen
The main harbor is good for sunset views, but the best spot to enjoy a sunset looking west over the water is near Fort Clinch or Deedee Bartel boat ramp and park - no crowds and very serene. From the Fernandina Beach harbor you can also take cruises. There typically is one at sunset.
Saturday mornings there is a farmers market downtown with local produce and also arts and crafts that is worth a stroll.
I enjoyed a visit to taste samples at Marlin & Barrel Distillery, South 8th Street. I like simple beer, so I cannot advise on that, but Mocama Brewery is the name everybody talks about.
My biggest personal blessing is the gentle joy of a sunrise walk, at the beach just minutes from our house. You never know what you are going to get, but in some way, it always turns out to be special.
