West Dene is a traditional Peak District cottage on a quiet road in the picturesque village of Tideswell ("Cathedral of the Peaks"). There's a cosy log burning stove for the cooler nights and a sunny terrace for summer days. For a night in, there are 1000 movies to choose from. Was Sie im Nachbarschafts-Viertel lieben werden
Tideswell is a small, working village in the Peak District National Park. There are three pubs, all serving food, within easy walking distance and cafes and restaurants in the centre of the village. There are shops and a post office and a secondhand bookshop to browse in. Buses connect the village with the tourist centres of Buxton and Bakewell, the city of Sheffield and the market town of Chesterfield. Nearby are Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and "The Plague Village" of Eyam. The Peak District has an extensive network of paths and cycle routes.
Zusätzliche Informationen
West Dene is a traditional 19th century, limestone cottage situated a five minute stroll from the shops, pubs and tearooms of the village of Tideswell in the heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park. An elevated position affords views of Tideswell Church (“Cathedral of the Peak”; c. 1320) and the surrounding countryside from the private, sunny, raised patio at the rear of the cottage and the sitting area at the front that catches the setting sun. Three bedrooms (one double and two with two single beds each) sleep six comfortably, with views (whilst still in bed!) across the countryside toward the hamlet of Wheston from the front bedroom. There is WiFi, double glazing and central heating throughout and parking is possible directly outside. The Peak District National Park offers stunning walks in the contrasting White and Dark Peak areas, climbing on Stanage Edge and The Roaches, gliding and paragliding, unparalleled fly and coarse fishing in the Rivers Wye and Dove (of “The Compleat Angler” fame), extensive on and off road cycle routes and numerous tourist attractions (Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall, the spa and market towns of Buxton and Bakewell, Castleton Caverns, the Monsal Trail (cycle hire), Miller’s Dale, Mam Tor, Castleton).
West Dene has been sympathetically renovated to retain original stone and timber features but provide modern comforts. The fully equipped kitchen\diner, which can seat six comfortably, has granite worksurfaces, limestone floor, Belfast sink, double oven, Bosch washing machine, gas hob and microwave. There is a tumble dryer in the outside utility room. The cosy sitting room has a wonderfully comfortable sofa, woodburning stove, Samsung TV (Amazon Prime enabled) with Bluetooth soundbar and Bluray player. There is a library of books, local walk guides and maps, and films on DVD (1000 indexed). Upstairs, the family bathroom has a shower and towelrail and the bedrooms have the original, exposed wooden floors, and comfortable, sprung slatted beds, with white Egyptian cotton linen and breathable Dorma duvets. The top floor has a double bed and cloakroom (sink and toilet). Outside is a courtyard, a large, elevated paved patio with garden tables and chairs and a bench with a view of the church tower.
Tideswell is a combination of working village and tourist destination with foodie aspirations. There are three welcoming pubs in the village, The Merchant’s Yard restaurant, excellent cafes, two outstanding fish and chip shops, a chemist, post-office, butcher, baker, greengrocer, secondhand bookshop, and mini-supermarket (7:00 to 22:00 every day). In summer, the village comes alive with traditional well-dressing, a food festival and the renowned Tideswell Wakes. There are local walks from the front door (The Limestone Way, Pennine Bridleway, Peter Dale, Hay Dale, Monk’s Dale) and a good local bus service. Nearby are a number of exceptional pubs that cannot be missed: The Red Lion (Litton), The Bull’s Head (Foolow) and The Packhorse Inn (Little Longstone). Buxton (c. 8 miles) has an opera house, pavilion, galleries, museum, markets, carnival, numerous restaurants, food and comedy festivals and live music. Bakewell (c. 8 miles) also has markets, a food festival, carnival, swimming pool, Eroica Britannia Bike Festival and an outstanding restaurant (Piedaniel’s). Alton Towers is an hour away.
Tideswell is close to three international of airports (East Midlands, 1h 15m; Manchester, 1h 15m; Birmingham 1h 40m). The nearest main train stations are Chesterfield (30m) Sheffield (45m) and Buxton (15m).
