Our house is a modernised and extended period family house set in the lovely Borders town of Melrose. Its situation takes full advantage of views of the Eildon Hills and surrounding countryside.
The house has been renovated to a high standard including downstairs:
Kitchen - A modern kitchen with adjoining sun-room. The kitchen is fully equipped with a double oven and 5 burner hob, we are keen cooks so you should find everything you need to cook with. Dining table with seating for 6.
Outside - patio with BBQ, Ooni pizza oven and seating for 6.
Utility room - with laundry and WC
Lounge - large formal lounge with wood burning stove and seating for 6. We have a good selection of gym gear including weights, barbell, rower and bike available. We usually leave these in the study which we lock during exchanges, but if you would like to make use of them just let us know.
Playroom - All the children's toys and books you could imagine plus a double sofa bed if you need extra room, probably only suitable for children if sleeping here for more than a few days.
Upstairs:
Master bedroom - with super king size bed and en-suite bathroom including a large walk in shower.
Bedroom 2 - Lovely room with views over the hills to Melrose. Double bed
Bedroom 3 - Small double bed
Bedroom 4 - IKEA daybed that can be used as either a single or Super king
Bathroom - Family bathroom with a huge jacuzzi bath and separate shower
Outside we have a secure, child friendly garden which is laid to lawn and with a good sized patio. Parking for 3 cars and a BBQ. We have a trampoline, playhouse for children to enjoy. There are two adult bikes (one electric) and two children's bikes.
We have two electric cars and have an 11kw charger available for use, just leave some money at the end of your stay to cover charging....typically £15 per full charge depending on your car

**Railway less than 1hr into central Edinburgh. The train station (Tweedbank) is 1 mile from our house, has a large car park to leave your car or plentiful taxis to take you to and from the house. Trains every 30 mins (Mon - Fri) and every hour at weekends. The last train back from Edinburgh at 12pm midnight so plenty of time for dinner, a show or even a dance before you head home! www.scotrail.com
In the heart of the Scottish Borders, Melrose is the perfect holiday destination for, walking, cycling, horseriding and rugby. Melrose also boasts some of the best salmon and trout fishing in Scotland.
Our house is situated on the edge of the town giving us the best of both worlds, fantastic views over open countryside while only being 10 mins walk into town. Be warned...the hill coming back from town is quite steep so if you are coming home after dinner we find that several drinks help with the effort!
You can walk straight from the house on a great selection of paths from 20 min stroll to 5-10 mile longer walks in beautiful woodland or a proper hike up the Eildon hills. There are so many other lovely walks around Melrose town centre and the surrounding towns, we have walking route booklets for each town in our guest pack at the house. Have a go at a few of them, there are some really stunning views to see!
The town is beautiful with good restaurants, pubs and shops. There are several first class restaurants with a wide range of cuisines and some good pubs all within a 10 minute walk of our house. There is a very good baker, two butchers, fishmonger, delicatessen, cake shop and excellent greengrocer in the town.
The town is situated on the River Tweed in a very picturesque part of Scotland famous for its walking, fishing, villages and castles. Melrose is famous for its Rugby (it's the birthplace of the Rugby Sevens) and rugby is very much at the heart of the community here. Melrose Sevens is the original seven a side rugby tournament and is held every April bringing thousands of fans to the town for the weekend. There is a vast array of hill walks. The town golf course (9 holes) is situated across the road from the house in fact in the summer you can sometimes lie in bed and hear the early morning golfers teeing off! You can play on the course as a non-member £15 for 9 holes, £25 for18. www.melrosegolfcourse.co.uk Its worth is for the views alone.
The town has a rich history, with Melrose Abbey, architectural attractions, museums and exhibitions including the oldest continuously inhabited village in Scotland. We also have the Wynd Theatre which has plays on throughout the year.
Located in the central borders Melrose is very well located for all Border towns, Galashiels (3 miles), Selkirk (8 miles), Hawick (16 miles), Kelso (15 miles), Jedburgh (15 miles). There is plenty to do in the surrounding area especially for the active visitor including walking routes such as St Cuthbert's Way and the Southern Upland Way. There are several cycle tracks nearby including the excellent Glentress Complex in Peebles (25 mins). Horse riding is very popular in the Borders with many local trekking stables and the Border Rideouts which can be enjoyed throughout the summer. There are also many local stately homes and gardens which can be visited including Abbotsford House, Floors Castle, Bowhill Estate and Thirlestane Castle. The beautiful beaches around Berwick upon Tweed and into Northumberland are 50 minutes away.
We are 40 minutes drive from the outskirts of Edinburgh and 55 minutes drive to the airport making visits to Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival & Fringe a great way to spend a day or an evening in the summer. We are approx 1.5 hrs from Newcastle.
