Hi, we'd love to host you in our home, which we designed and built ourselves. We built "green," using many recycled materials, passive solar heat, radiant stained concrete floors, instant hot water, and many other custom features. It has an open, sunny floor plan, with seven 8-foot patio doors facing south and one facing west.
The open living/dining area extends the entire south side of the house. The living area has two 8-foot patio doors, one facing south and the other facing west, with a view of the stream and stone bridge. It includes a 50" smart TV, a sectional sofa with a pull-out queen bed, and a Danish Rais wood stove. The dining area has an 8 foot patio door to the south, and a gas fireplace. The fully equipped eat-in kitchen includes a commercial 36" gas range with a broiler/grill combination and convection oven.
In the center of the living/dining area is a helical staircase that leads to the library loft on the second floor. The second floor has hardwood floors and includes three bedrooms. The master bedroom is 14' x 15', with a queen-size bed and a stereo/smart TV. It has a full bath/walk-in closet and an 8 foot patio door that opens onto the south-facing deck with glass railings. The other south facing bedroom is 14' x 12'. It also has a queen bed and an 8 foot patio door that opens onto the south-facing deck, and an infrared sauna. The bedroom on the north side is 14' x 12' and has a double-sized sofa bed with an attached half bath. Upstairs also includes a bath with a jacuzzi tub and washer/dryer, and a separate half bath.
Off the west side of the living room is a 12' x 20' screened/covered patio with a view of the stream. It includes a seating area with a propane fire pit. Closer to the stream is a campfire circle, a hot tub, and a picnic table. Farther down the stream is a lovely 12'x14' screen room with bug and privacy screens and a firepit. The views of the stream from the screen room are stunning: upstream 100' is a huge stone bridge, A volleyball net is available next door and a pellet smoker/grill is available.
The home is situated on a gorgeous park-like setting with amazing views of the stream with its massive stone bridge. We've put a lot of effort into making this home comfortable, and we're sure you'll enjoy and appreciate its warm informal charm.

Our home is on a shared private lane about 120m from Alford Lake, which has a reputation as one of the cleanest and nicest in the region. It is ideal for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, etc. Alford Lake is actually perfect for kids, as it gets deep gradually. In spite of that, the water is exceptionally clean and clear, and the lake is remarkably serene and private--even during the height of summer there are rarely power boats on it, and we hear the plaintive call of the loons every day.
You'll have use of the shared dock (where you can have your coffee every morning--envision that quintessential Maine picture of the Adirondack chairs at the end of a dock). The shore area includes a gazebo with a picnic table. You are welcome to use our 17' canoe, our 12' solo kayak, or our 17' tandem kayak, and of course paddles and life preservers. You are also welcome to use our fishing gear.
If you prefer, you can take an easy path down the stream to the lake (it feels like you are in your own private park--you can stop halfway down and take a nap in the hammock). We regularly see wild animals such as bald eagle, turkeys, fox, mink, fishers, loons, and turtles. If you prefer to go farther afield, there is a network of dozens of nearby of hiking trails, as well as numerous lakes to paddle or row in.
We are located just ten miles from Camden, Maine, one of the prettiest villages in New England. We are fifteen miles from Rockland with the Farnsworth Art Museum (Wyeth Collection) and numerous festivals (Atlantic Blues Festival, Lobster Festival, Windjammer Festival). Belfast is another charming nearby town. I like Belfast because Route 1 goes PAST--not THROUGH it. There are scores of artisans, galleries, and restaurants within a few minutes drive, as well as numerous historic nautical and sailing interests, and there are always local art festivals going on somewhere.
You'll find dozens of quaint lobstering and fishing villages if you like meandering along the Maine coast, or lots of cool antique and curiosity shops if you prefer to poke around farther inland. We are 1 1/2 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, 1 1/2 hours from Portland, Maine, and about 4 hours from Boston.
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway that has all the charms of a classic New England summer lake vacation combined with the quaint coastal fishing village experience, our home is perfect!

The home includes a separate apartment area that can be included or not, depending on your needs. If you don't need it (and you don't mind), we may stay there and be available for you. We also own the home next door, which has a large level lawn and other amenities such as volleyball, croquet, and horseshoes, which are available to you.
