“We are a retired couple who like to go to the southern hemisphere in the winter to search for the sun. We often travel together.”
Discover her trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Between cultural and culinary discoveries and making new friendships, home exchange allowed Lucette to go on vacation and have all of these new experiences.
Home Exchange in Vietnam
In Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh, we found an extraordinary exchange with a Franco-Vietnamese couple, who received us and guided us during our stay. We were taken to great locations. We tasted local cuisine sometimes fused with French culinary tastes. Our hosts were expert guides and we quickly established a friendship that we know will last a lifetime.

“These exchanges made us meet wonderful people and allowed us to stay longer thanks to the all the money we saved.”
A Home Exchange in Cambodia
Our next exchange took us to Cambodia, including 3 nights in Phnom Penh, to a French couple with whom we communicated a lot by email. Their apartment was comfortable, nice, well located, and very central. There was also a touktouk driver, (the one the couple always uses) waiting for us at the bus station. We were able to use his services during our stay. We had the same benefits as a hotel such as a pool at the top of the building, maps, guides, and tips, but in addition, we could also prepare our own meals.
We enjoyed the show of traditional Khmer dances at the National Museum and the visit to the Royal Palace. We also dove into the sad history of the country that experienced a genocide. These exchanges made us meet amazing people and allowed us to travel longer thanks to the money we saved on accommodation costs. It also helped us feel like the locals by shopping in the markets and strolling random streets while taking our time. We ended our trip in Siem Reap (a starting point for visiting the fabulous temples of Angkor) and in Bangkok where we stayed in a hotel.
