Things to do in Seattle: Best outdoor adventures
A visit to Seattle, Washington should of course be filled with cups of dark roasted coffee, fresh fish, and being amazed by the stunning landscapes. What really makes visiting the “Emerald City” memorable is getting to experience the spectacular urban-rural distinction. The adventures that await on land and water, lowland and highland, rain or shine, are what make Seattle ideal for outdoor enthusiasts.
Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market first opened in 1907 and now stands as one of the country’s oldest continously operated farmers market. Known for its traditon of “Meet the Producer”, you will find owner-operated bakeries, fish markets, butcher shops and specialty food stores. To really watch the market come to life, it is reccommended to visit the market shortly after opening where you can grab a cup of coffee at the original starbucks coffee shop and a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants on site. If you happen to pass by Pikes Place Fish you may catch one of the worker’s know for throwing large salmon over the stand.
Canoeing
For discoveries to be made on the water, rent a canoe, sailboat, or other watercraft to row across Lake Union. The south end of the lake provides spectacular views of the city with its gigantic bridges, glimpses into unique floating homes and the tranquility of the wildlife that coexists within the city.
Jog with a view
If you’re looking for a light trekk through lush greenery, take a quick visit to Discovery Park, the city’s largest greenspace, for walks through the forest and strolls along the beach. Situated along the Puget Sound coastline, orca’s can often be found swimming freely in their natural habitat. Thanks to the park’s protected wildlife sanctuary, many other flora and fauna can be found with grand views of the Cascade and Olympia Mountain ranges.
Kerry Park
The best way to end a night in Seattle is with a trip up to Kerry Park where you will find amajestic view of the city with Mt.Rainier as it’s heavenly backdrop. As the single most photograhed view in Seattle, it is reccomended to snap photos around 9pm on a clear day to take in the Emerald city’s ability to graciously coexist with its natural surroundings.
Hiking
More hiking adventures can be had at Mt. Rainier at just a short three hour drive from the city. Beautiful in any season take day trip to the 14,411 ft. glacier encrusted volcanoe for wildflower hikes on its northern side with alpine lakes and old growth forests. Locals and visitors all agree that a trip to Mt.Rainier during flower season offers an ethereal view into nature leaving you astounished that such beauty could so lie close to a thriving city.
