Izzy and her family on an exchange in New York City.
How did you find your exchange?
I contacted a member from the HomeExchange community.
What attracted you to this exchange opportunity?
We exchanged with a family in Brooklyn as our family wanted to visit New York City to celebrate the New year 2019. The drive is not too far from our home in Montreal and it was great fun for our kids to visit and discover NYC! As a bonus, our kids loved taking care of our hosts 2 dogs that came with the home exchange!
How was your arrival at the home?
We initially met our hosts through Skype and then once there at the end of our stay. We exchanged logistical details about their house and they left us lots of useful tips to visit the area!
What did you see or do during your exchange?
Great Brooklyn neighborhoods, Prospect park, NYC Aquarium, the fantastic street art of Bushwick, ate the famous Roberta's pizza, visited Dumbo area under the Brooklyn bridge & crossing the bridge on foot was a highlight. And visiting the numerous attraction Manhattan has to offer: Ground zero, little Italy & Chinatown, The High Line, and the museums (the kids enjoyed the American Natural History Museum), central park, the lights of Times Squares and the decorated Holiday window showcases!
What is your favorite memory from the exchange?
Having a personalized stay in a family home while being greeted by 2 lovely & friendly dogs, which our kids loved to take care of. The house was very well-located and comfortable and our hosts had prepared everything for us so that we would feel at home! Brooklyn is such a fun and diverse place, with cool museums and neighborhoods. We loved the Dumbo area.
How would you describe home exchange to your family and friends?
It is a refreshing way to travel and connect with others, by staying in their home. It is based on trust and friendship, and so much better than a hotel! I definitely recommend home exchange!
