Yvonne and Mike tell us about their trip to Edinburgh, Scotland.
How did you find your exchange?
A member from the HomeExchange community contacted me.
What attracted you to this exchange opportunity?
We had been thinking of meeting up with our Scottish friends somewhere for our yearly get together, so when Alex contacted us and asked if we would be interested hosting her and also taking a trip to Edinburgh, it seemed like an opportunity too good to miss. Her flat was only an hour away from Glasgow where we could fly to directly and our friends agreed it would be exciting to meet in a place neither of us were too familiar with. It suited us both perfectly that there was a new flight between our cities (with the really tiny Loganair aircraft) so this too became a draw.
How was your arrival at the home?
Yes, we met our host at their flat. They showed us around and left us a folder of information and tips. We exchanged keys and got to know each other a little better.
What did you see or do during your exchange?
The flat was in the very heart of Edinburgh just off the Royal mile. It was a weekend of the riding of the marches - a famous procession, so lots of street entertainment was going on. We were also staying in the flat with our Scottish friends (as a base to meet), so we enjoyed lots of catching up and spending time in the flat itself.
What is your favorite memory from the exchange?
Sharing the house with our friends, and feeling so at home and comfortable in the lovely surroundings of our weekend home. Being so very close to the heart of the city and so not having to negotiate any public transport. Enjoying really good meals out, knowing our weekend due to Home exchange was so affordable. Also listening to the sound of bagpipes from our window.
How would you describe home exchange to your family and friends?
There's nothing better, it's all so easy.
