My HomeExchange Story: "Be flexible, friendly, and honest!"
Seasoned HomeExchanger Julie traveled with her partner to Cairns, Australia and were greeted by their friendly hosts, Ron and Pam. Julie found herself the recipient of amazing hospitality, as Ron and Pam took her and her partner under their wings and helped them have an unforgettable experience in Cairns. She was kind enough to share her story about the great times she had in Australia with her exchange partners.
Discover HomeExchangeWhat did you appreciate most about the home you stayed in?
Ron and Pam's home was incredible. Massive stunning garden with beautiful flowers and a huge pool. Really nice location to enjoy an evening stroll and look for ‘roos on the neighbors’ lawn.
What did you appreciate most about your exchange partner?
Ron, Pam, and her sister were super fun. We clicked from the moment they arrived at our home for their hosted stay. Really easy to get along with and great communication. When we stayed in their home they took us to the Daintree visitor center which they happened to own. It was an awesome experience, the drive to it alone was amazing through the rain forest. They explained that when they first bought the land the road was just a track, and a nightmare in the rainy season. We sadly just missed a cassowary by seconds. They arranged for a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel. They gave us so much advice and safety tips too – there are of course potentially dangerous situations if you are not aware.
Travel with HomeExchangeWhat did you see or do during your exchange?
We did so much: We visited the Daintree Forest, snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef, visited the Port Douglas markets and bought an opal mined by a local, and enjoyed the Tablelands’ incredible scenery.
What is one of your best memories or experiences from a home exchange?
Watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks on Sydney Harbor Bridge with my parents to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
What would you say to your friends and family who are considering HomeExchange?
It offers so many opportunities to travel better, longer, experience the local culture, and meet amazing people at the same time.
What tips and tricks would you give to new HomeExchangers?
Be flexible, friendly, and honest!
