My HomeExchange Story: Argentina and Uruguay

This story of a home exchange to Argentina and Uruguay was shared with us by Leticia.
1. Where did you go on your home exchange?
I am originally from Uruguay but have been living in the USA for 14 years. My family tries to go to Uruguay once a year but that uses up most of our vacation budget and time. Last year we decided we wanted to explore another destination on the way to our annual trip to Uruguay, so we flew to Ushuaia, Argentina, also called "The Land's End".
2. How did you find your exchange?
I contacted them.
3. What was it that attracted you to this exchange opportunity?
I liked the fact that we would stay in a neighborhood as opposed to a hotel in the touristy area. The hosts were in the house during our exchange, which surprisingly for many people, it's something we enjoy, as it provides us with the insight of the locals.
4. Tell us about your arrival:
Our host gave us all kinds of useful information such as where to get transportation, which places to visit, how to get there, which restaurants, and museums were recommendable.
5. What did you see or do during your exchange?
We did and saw a lot. One day we went to the Martial Glacier. Other days we rented a car and we took advantage to go to a not-so well-known strawberry farm where the southernmost highway in South America ends. We also enjoyed a delicious meal at a great restaurant right by the ocean called "La Sirena y el Capitán" in Puerto Almanza.
6. What is the favorite memory from your exchange?
I enjoyed having conversations with Violeta, our host. It was great to hear what the city looked liked 30 years ago and to learn about the political and social issues that have made this city what it is now.
7. How would you describe home exchange to your family and friends?
Our home exchange in Ushuaia was an opportunity not just to find accommodation but to "live" the city from the perspective of a local.
