Anna tells us about her first home exchange her first time ever trip to Canada.
How did you find your exchange?
I contacted another HomeExchange member to organize the exchange.
What attracted you to this exchange opportunity?
It was our first exchange and I'd for a long time yearned to go to Canada. So it was the opportunity to explore a new country as well as a new way of traveling. We are well traveled and wanted to experience another way of getting close to a foreign country so HomeExchange was very interesting for us.
How was your arrival at the home?
Before our arrival we had had extensive and great communication with our hosts via e-mail. We had covered a lot of topics, from the practicalities to possible excursions and even what our breakfast preferences were.
We were met at the airport, although we landed very late at night, by our very hospitable host.
What did you see or do during your exchange?
Wow we did whale watching, went to a local Farmers' market, had freshly cooked lobster at Peggy's Cove, enjoyed the swimming pool in the garden. And not to least mention strolled along the beautiful beaches. Our super friendly hosts took us out on their sailboat for a day cruise which was also a joy. We also looked after the house cat even though he took mostly care of himself.
What is your favorite memory from the exchange?
The experience of a new country in a new way. The warm welcoming by our hospitable hosts and the new perspectives it means by staying in a residence's home. Noticing the similarities and differences between our countries. The nature, the food and the exciting adventures of exploring on your own, in your own way.
How would you describe home exchange to your family and friends?
It is a different way of traveling experience which enlightens you and enriches the whole concept of traveling with a deeper understanding and enjoyment.
