Why did you start traveling with HomeExchange?
I started home exchanging because I travel a lot to Portugal where my partner lives, and I found it a really nice way to lower my costs and to also live comfortably while I'm there. I can see more of the local way of life and have the opportunity to cook my own meals. Also, while I’m traveling I'm able to give someone a place to stay, and my apartment is not empty.

How popular is the concept of home exchanging in Finland?
In Finland, home exchanging is not popular. Almost all of my friends have never heard about it. Their first concern is what if something happens to my home. I tell them that swapping homes is optional and you can also book using GuestPoints. Also I mention that there are guarantees and a deposit that give you security. I also tell them that my experiences have always been good, and you really get to see more when you travel like a "local".

Traveling to Portugal regularly is affordable, thanks to HomeExchange.

Do you have a preference for GuestPoints or reciprocal exchanges?
So far I have only done GP exchanges. My preference is GP because I usually have a specific place where I want to travel.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to newcomers starting at HomeExchange?
When you are looking for a place to stay and send messages to people, my advice is to be mindful and use time to write personally to them, don’t just send the same message to everyone. Be patient, sometimes it takes time to find the right place for you. And have good communication with people you make exchanges with. :)
